archivesWork Party for Saturday 6-21-08We’re looking for volunteers to help repair the stairs at Crestline. (Some sort of Off Road Vehicle decided to have fun spinning donuts in the set up area and used the steps to get up there. The steps were damaged badly enough to need replacing.) We’re planning on doing the work Saturday morning, 6-21-08. We'll meet at 9:00 AM in the LZ and those who join the work party should be able to fly from Crestline afterward. Rob McKenzie has offered a free shuttle ride to the first 6 pilots who volunteer. Left Batten Bag at Crestline Launch on SundayDoh! I think I left my batten bag in the setup area at Crestline on Sunday. If you happen to have grabbed it, thanks. I'll be in the area next weekend. Father's DayNice day. My daughter, FSU and dog all took me flying. Hot, humid, but a little too cool for only a T-shirt at altitude. We launched from Crestline, above the forecasted inversion. We all were mostly hanging around 5800, but I bumped up to 6200 several times and max'd at 6600. I flew to Marshall to warm up. It was nicely soarable and only marred by a bag flying staight at me with no effort to turn away. How does it happen that a pilot gets all the way to a tandem instructor rating, I assume, without figuring out you take traffic down your left side. Possible scenario's come to mind. He's French, enough said. He's some other form of asshole. He's a product of Uncle Jebb's puppy, err... panty mill. He's a relatively new pilot with a big wing, no rating and no skills. June Bugs?Did I miss the June Bugs this year? They often show up in late May, but I don't think I saw any. Usually there's about a week where they're all over the screens at night here in San Bernardino. I also haven't noticed any butterfly-heavy days while flying this year. A few years ago we had that period in late Spring when the migrating Monarchs were splattering windshields and marking out thermals - quite a sight to be in a gaggle of Monarchs at 6000 MSL. |
