Elsinore, 10-1I arrived at launch around 11:45. Nice Cu Nims popping off the range from The E launch NW to Saddleback and beyond. There were haze domes over the Ranches and South towers. I launched into a 6-10 mph ENE wind at 12:15. Went left to the house thermal and was rewarded with lift. I fumbled around in it for about 15 min and got up to around 1K over launch. I pushed to the West where the center of the cloud was. It was bigger than when I launched. I gulped when I found the thermal feeding THAT cloud. I worked it up to cloudbase at 12K in about 20 min. Another OMG ride. I hit a max accent rate of 1275 fpm. It was a lot smoother today, but it was still bumpy as **. I didn't take any collapses, just a few little tip folds. I topped out at 12.4K msl. Mitch was up there some where, I couldn't see him though, so I stayed away from going into the clouds. He topped out around 13.3K. I flew/drifted following the clouds about 5 miles SW. About then the clouds started looking pretty dark on the bottoms. So I turned back to the SE, and skirted back around to the front of the clouds. Where I found big sink. As much as 950 fpm. I was kinda cold, so I went with it and landed in a bumpy, hot LZ with hardly any wind blowing. I had to run it out a little, but a good landing. I went from 2900' msl to 12.4K msl and back to the ground in about an hour. Yee Haw! Forums > Pilot Reports Flight > PG Sites > Elsinore |
