Point of the Mountain - July 1st to 7thGwen and the boys are out of town from July 1st through the 7th so I'm heading to Point of the Mountain, in Salt Lake City, Utah to do some all-you-can-eat flying. It's a weird time because it's from a wednesday 'till a tuesday, and it's a holiday weekend (but I wont be traveling on heavy travel days). But I plan on ridge soaring every morning, flying mountain sites in the afternoon, and ridge soaring every evening as well. I'm camping. And I don't want to be burdened with too much formal planning. But anyone who is interested in joining up with me for part or all of the trip may do so. Forums > Rides & Road Trips Flight > HG Room?Like I said, you're invited. Now getting there is a different matter all together. I have one seat available, and it's already promised to someone. Camping at Point of the MountainOK. I got the tip from E-Team Jack that you can camp on launch at the south side of the point. I double checked with Ryan and he says camping is super cool with the club. Which means... you can wake up, get ten flights (it's a top landing) then have breakfast and get 30 more flights. But... it'll be HOT camping. Fortunately I'll be flying the whole time, so I don't care how hot it is. Who's in?? rC We were there in mid July.We were there in mid July. I don't remember it being hot. It was BumpThus far, it appears that Dusty and I are going for sure and that DesignbyDave may join us. Which means that we're "sold out" on seats in my car. Anyone interested may meet us there. We've been given the green light to camp on the south side of the point. It would be great to see a group of CSS and E-Teamers there. rC UPDATE:: I'm the only person confirmed at this time, which opens up a seat. It looks like Dusty can't make it. Heading up earlier?Myself and Dana Higgins are planning to head up on June 26th through possibly July 3rd. Most likely staying with family 10 minutes away, but may bring the toy hualer and camp. Will update as time gets closer. If there is interest let me know. Craig Mason Locked InI'm locked into my dates, so I'll see you guys there on the afternoon of the 1st. But anyone else contemplating the trip should really think about taking up Craig's offer to be part of "phase one" (End of June) or "phase two" (beginning of July) with me. Either way will be a blast! Point of the Mountain FormsRod, Here is a link to the forms you need to fill out to fly here at Point of the Mountain. You'll need to get it signed by one of the instructors before you are good to go. We found Steve from Cloud 9 on the south side in the morning and he took care of us. http://www.uhgpga.org/Portals/0/docs/2009%20Membership%20Form.pdf Get ready of a zillion PG's. I think we had about 30 in the air on the south side in the morning, and about 40 in the air staring about 18:30 on the north side. You can probably get your HG in the air on the south side after the PG's leave at 10:00 and before they come to the north side if the wind turns. This isn't really a great place for quick turn hang flights, but is very friendly to PG. If it isn't crowded you can land where you take off on the north side, but most likely you'll have to land a few hundred yards to the south and make the trek back. You'll love the setup area on the north side! Note that the padlock combo to get in the Water Treatment Facility if you land down is 22 36 14. There is a great field in the treatment plant to land should you have to dodge a PG and get out of the lift band. And yes, there is a trail you can walk back up the hill to get your car. Enjoy, Craig Mason If you get boredThere's going to be a group flying Cedar City Fri, Sat, Sun. Launch is at 9K. Meet behind K-mart LZ at 10 am. Cedar City eats paras :') One Final BumpOK. We're on 100%. DxD and I are leaving tomorrow morning and we're camping on the southside of the POM. My phone number is 949-310-34Five2 if you need to reach me. I've got a hibachi, a camp stove, and whisky. So GAME ON! Please join us. Also there's a load of banter going on about the trip on "the org." Here's the thread. http://www.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=12527 POMHave fun and fly safe! Don't stop in Las Vegas you may not get there. POM FunRod, POM has been great. We are hoping to fly Wed morning before heading back to SoCal about noon. The weather turned this afternoon so the north side wasn't on and no flying. Hopefully it will be back on Wed. Hook up with a guy name John to get the heads up on HG flying here. He drives a white van and flys a Falcon 3 170 with a green leading edge. He flys about every day that is good and can give you pointers on top landing the south side. Three guys put it in pretty hard on Monday with just little screw ups, but John can let you know what works and what to watch for. The north side is pretty each to bench up on. If the thermals are working you just need about 300 feet over and you can shoot back and generally ride the mountain up very easily. hey, you can fly until 9:00 at night, what a great place! I'll check to see if anyone knows where you can clean up at and let you know if I find something. |
