deadbeat

Heard we had another visiting pilot skip out on his daily use fee. Even after he overshot the LZ and the monitor and another local gave him water and helped carry his T2 to the break down area. Maybe he was dazed, but he told the monitor it was in the drop box and at the end of the day when they tallied up who was naughty and nice, he was naughty. I'd use other language but this is a public forum. If I'm wrong and there was a mistake on events told I will gladly apologize and quickly delete this thread.

Not Again

My Ultrasport is equipped with 20 Cal Cannons I'll blast that T2 to smithereens.

T2 Guy

I heard that the T2 Pilot mentioned is a Billionaire and was going to donate 1.5 Million to the CSS Club. Now you pissed him off whining about ten dollars and won't ever be back.

cheese & whine

No one's whining. I just have a tendency to say it like I see it. Others have thanked me for pointing out things that were also bugging them. I think that if visiting pilots are aware that we do check who pays and who doesn't the majority will pay. There will always be an exception. I'm pretty much done with it as it seems no one else cares, but when the monitor told the story and showed his disappointment I had to pass it on.

Vino and Queso

Look,

An honest mistake is an honest mistake. And, ten dollars is only ten dollars.

But...

A significant number of visitors have shirked us, enough that these threads are worthwhile, on top of the monitor's efforts.

Don't lose the faith, Tommy.

I think everyone should realize that the best way to avoid having to raise club dues down the road is to collect all of the dues now.

CSS provides the best LZ in the West with two great launches. $10 a day is a bargain, $100/year is even better.

And I know few put more than Mark into the place. Mark's always out working on the joint. Those efforts contribute to a LZ with 110v power, wireless internet, grass, water (sorta), and two crappers. If people don't want to pay dues, they can go land over by the off roaders.

Thanks for backing up the monitor, Tom.

Re-word

My post for that dead beat was a twisted view of what is or could be. I did not mean to make it sound like you were complaining. I think he should have paid for the day use also. I was just thinking of how sometimes people who you think are bums turn out to be Billionaires. Like the one guy I heard about who lived on the street. When he died he donated tons of money to the homeless

The Monitor

He should have a key and be able to check this ( the box envelopes) in the future ?

Responsibility

Kevin,

That's probably too much responsibility and authority to put on the monitor. The monitor has to approach every person flying in but also has to take their word for some things (and write a note next to their name if questions remain).

names and info

I think the sign in / day use procedure should emphasize giving the pilot's name and being done before the flight, due to safety reasons.

If someone goes down, it may be helpful.

Using the safety premise.........

Then why doesn't everyone who intends to fly, sign-in? That way there's a record to reconcile w/ dues paying members and day-use visitors.

Let's say that a regular member shows up to fly and drives himself up to Marshall, expecting to either top land or get a body ride back to his/her vehicle. But they go long and don't have a retrieve or go down and are unable to get in contact by phone or radio. With a sign-in list, at least there'd be some record of who that was.

If there's going to be a sign-in for safety rule then wouldn't it be more effective if it was unilateral?

Universal sign in....

I think you've latched on to something that could save a life someday. We've all heard of the SCUBA diving party boats that head back to port after a day of diving leaving one diver in the water for a very long swim because the operator didn't reconcile who went out with who came in. General Aviation training streeses the importance of filing flight plans.

But I can't think of how we would administer it. We could check in(out) and check out(in) with the monitor ?

What about XC flights planned or unplanned?

deadbeat

T2Tom,
I appreciate you posting this info. Now all we need is this individuals name posted so that someone can remind him of his debt should he ever show up again. I'm sure other clubs would want to know the identity of this individual also.
Skipping out on a ten dollar day use fee to a hang gliding club tells me everything I need to know about a person.
Then again, I'd take a day off work to see the club sue him for the day use fee and any other pertinent expenses in small claims court.

We could make them mow the lawn with the sprinklers running.

deadbeat

The points made about signing in BEFORE flying sound good and could possibly protect the club from liability in the event of a deadbeat injuring himself in OUR LZ.
Heck, the club could even hold that individual responsible for damage to the grass at the site of impact.

Sign in, sign out...

Sounds like more regulation to me. The people who aren't paying their fees would also fail to sign in. Rules only affect those who follow them. Making more rules won't help. Take pictures of these people and make a "Wall of Shame". They can buy thier picture off the wall for twice what they owe.
