Maralys Wills To Speak in Tustin on February 16

I saw this announcement in our local newspaper today. I wish I could attend (but can't). I have read two of her books about early hang gliding and the story of Wills Wing. I think this would be a very interesting talk.

CSS Toy Drive 2009

CSS Toy Drive 2009

We had a great turnout for the CSS Toy Drive 2009! It was windy from the north, but warm. Seemed like about 20 pilots came to hang out, eat pizza and drop off toys to add to the club-purchased pile. The Suburban was full of goodies for the tots. The local firefighters came out to have some pizza and socialize and then we delivered all the toys to the fire station.

Parachute Clinic!

Sylmar Hang Gliding Association is organizing a parachute clinic and inviting neighboring pilots.

For less than the price of a parachute repack you can learn to repack your own parachute and more!

Created by well-known harness designer and owner of High Energy Sports, Betty Pfeiffer and her husband have agreed to bring us their widely successful one-day workshop that really is more than a repack. For those of you who have taken this course you know that the knowledge and skills you gained from Betty’s clinic were worth far more than the price you paid. Some groups have charged as much as $150 for this clinic and others have brought in parachute manufacturers and other hang gliding experts to make it a profitable fund raising event. However, our goal is a bit different. We want to bring this clinic to all qualified pilots during a time when many of us are facing economic challenges that make hang gliding a little more difficult to afford. And we want to charge no more than $50 – less than the price of a parachute repack! In order to do this we need at least 20 pilots to sign up by January 1, 2010.

2009 CSS Toy Drive Saturday, Dec. 19th

We're having our annual toy drive on Saturday December 19. We collect unwrapped toys for all ages and add them to the nearby fire station's toy gathering efforts. The firefighters bring a truck out to the LZ and we get to interact in a non-emergency situation. We haven't seen them much this year, which is a good thing!

Toys will be collected in the LZ on Saturday from Noon until 2 PM.

HOT GIRL - Borrow tandem glider?

Hey all,

Looking forward to the fly in tomorrow.

Forgive if this is inappropriate forum chat, but there's an attractive woman involved...

I'm looking to borrow a tandem glider and passenger harness tomorrow sometime. If any local pilot can come through with this request, there'll be an attractive woman (swooning post tandem glassy eyed) hanging in the LZ tomorrow. I realize the scene will be filled with hotties, but consider my plea.

Casa Grande, flying races

This in from Davis Straub,

"I would like to invite Southern California pilots to come out to the Santa Cruz Flats Race in Casa Grande, Arizona, September 20-26th. This is a USHPA and CIVL sanctioned race to goal format competition. It is a great competition and we've had a wonderful time there the past two years staying at the hotel, sitting by the pool, getting pulled up next to the golf course, and flying in smooth air conditions over the Arizona flatlands.

Thanks John

John, Thanks for spear heading the barbecue today.....I am still stuffed.

Thursday turned out to be like a Mini Fly In. Lots of locals out along with the visiting pilots.

Dunlap Video and Panoramic

Due to glitches with gigapan stitching software and vegas movie studio platinum (neither seem to like my quad core proc), I have been sitting on some media from the dunlap trip.

One of the 'putes I used for the airport project has a single core and is now dutifully rendering my back log of videos.

Here is the Dunlap trip:

CSS Road Trip #2 - Mingus Mountain

This is developing, I have little information at this point, but it's worth getting out for planning purposes:

CSS'es second road trip of the year will be to Mingus Mountain in Arizona the weekend of Memorial Day (May 22-25).

Personally, I will be flying one day, whatever day has the best forecast. The rest of the time I'll be doing other things with wifey and pipsqueek in the area. Some may want to bring their families and do other things in the Prescott area.
