Options for Yosemite Aug 9/10 and 16/17

Two options for Yosemite over the next two weekends:

http://www.shga.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1072

Details: Camp at Bridalveil Campground (5-8 miles from launch). Arrive at launch between 6:30 and 7:00. Set up right away. Paperwork/briefing. Preflight (monitor does one on your glider too, but you must do your own as well.) Walk to launch. Fly! Land and break down. It is still early, you can raft, hike, bike, lay out and watch the best view in the world. On Sunday, the Ahwahnee (sp?) has a great (but expensive) Sunday Brunch. In a humongous room with a view of the cliffs. And if you fly Monday, there are fewer people on the valley floor than on the weekend.

Iquique, Chile 2008

Hello pilots,

I went to Iquique, Chile with a paragliding tour group in November, 2007, and I want to recommend this trip for 2008. Several pilots from the 2006 trip recommended it to me, and I am glad I went. Iquique is in the northern part of Chile and sits on the ocean at the edge of a desert. That makes it both a ridge and thermaling site, and it is one of the most consistent flying sites I have ever been to. You can literally fly every day for hours at a time.

"I was a Hang 3 when I last flew 26 years ago and now I'm working on getting back into the sport."

On his website he has a lot of interesting pictures of gliders he designed, built, and flew in the early 1970s in Michigan vicinity.

Hey all,

Dave and I had a fun flight at Big Sur last weekend that I got on Hi Def.

The youtube version is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuP_QaB94bE

The torrent for the hi-def version is here:
sand city

I was in monterey this last weekend for a business trip and i was able to bring my wing with me. i went to sand city which has some dunes along the coast. the wind was too strong saturday 17 to 27 west and only 1 hang glider flying. saturday i went again and at first the wind was very cross but there is a small bowl at the training hill that i was able to make short flights on. after each flight i would kite my wing back up the sand dune and then relaunch again. after the third or forth launch i was able to soar a little ridge to the left of launch and actually stay up. then the wind started shifting more west and i got enough height to cross a gap in the ridge and actually flew all the way to marina beach where the hang glider launch is. ( its about 7 miles ) the whole flight i was a little nervous as i had a very short time to get back to my hotel and check out and get my afternoon flight home but luckly i didnt sink out and made it all the way to marina where i was able to call the hotel shuttle to come and get me. very fun site, i may have only flown for an hour or so but i was very happy that i got in the air when all over so cal it may have not been flyable. and also it was my birthday which made it even more special. this site is somewhat unpredictable and doesent allways work but as i found out when it does work its really fun. I unfortunetely had my camera in the back of my pack as i thought i would just be kiting and so no pictures.

Dunlap wrap up

Mike Z, Mike B, Everyday Dave, and I just got back from a fun trip to Dunlap.

Friday, I drove while the others got in a late afternoon flight to get familiar with the new launch and landing. A storm system was rolling in, leading to some striking clouds in the background of a lot of my pictures. After packing up, we swung by a grocery store and got supplies for Mike B. to cook us a great dinner at my father's vacant house.
