Folks, there is a significant amount of work that needs to be done every year around our site to keep CSS/AJX operating smoothly.  We have occasional work like the upcoming work party to varnish the beams of the LZ Pavilion, but there are also jobs we do every season to keep the roads around the site and up to the launches passable after rain errosion.  Many of these jobs require Equipment Operators to run machines like Gracie (the CSS owned John Deere DL 210L Tractor/skip-jack) and other rental equipment like an Excavator or Boom-Lift.

For many years Gene, Tim, and a few others have done the lion’s share of operating this equipment around AJX.  We, as a Club, need to step up and help out more so that we are not constantly leaning on the same people to continue doing all of this work.

I’m asking all members who have experience with these (or similar) types of heavy equipment to volunteer as needed.  We will be renting a JLG or Genie Boom-Lift for the upcoming 21-22 October Pavilion project and it would be great to have some people out with us to operate the bucket while others sand and varnish the beams.  Gene already offered to help but I don’t expect him to be the sole person for 2 days!

Comment below and let us know if you are willing to help and what type of equipment you have experience with.  We will have another project toward the end of the season to revitalize the LZ grass that will require Gracie as we will be leveling the LZ as much as we can with some additional soil.  Through the winter, at various times due to weather, we will need Gracie fixing and leveling roads into the site and up the mountain as well as the Marshall road.

The club officers are working on better methods to post events requiring volunteers to ensure we get the word out in advance for things like work-parties and even who wants to come out and mow the LZ grass (its fun, I promise!).  Hopefully we will sort out the calendar soon and have a link on the webpage and cross post to social media so you can stay in the know.

They make extensions for paint sprayers , that can reach the Beams from the ground ; only the sanding part would need the Lift.

I have previously been certified for and used Boom (Articulating and Telescopic) and Scissor lifts.  No heavy equipment operator experience outside of riding lawnmowers.   I have added my name to Saturdays work party reservation.
