    Look at the map?

    your links refer 2 different orders with 2 different maps.  ORDER NO. 05-12-00-24-09 is the most recent and more restrictive. The order from Sept 8 had the closure boundary at hwy 18. It is now all the way to I 15.

    In accordance with the Nation Forest Service Order 05-12-53-24-09, the closure of the San Bernadino National Forest forces the CSS to cease all free-flight activity from ALL launches until the NFS cancels or modifies the closure order.

    This means NO flights will be launched from Marshall, Crestline, Regionals, the 750, or ANY launch activity for free flight.  Members need to respect the order given by the NFS and cease any activity within the National Forest to include hiking.  Please don’t show poor sportsmanship by violating the order, the CSS needs to show respect for the Emergency Responders who are working the fire and organizing the evacuation efforts.

    Students under instruction (or anyone else wanting to practice), may KITE in the AJX LZ and utilize the Training Hills.  Be mindful, and please be respectful… it’s possible that SBPD or Sheriff’s Deputy Patrols in the area may question any activity in the LZ.

    The written NFS Order in pdf can be viewed or downloaded by following this link, the Line Fire affected zone map is on the same page;

    FYI, this occurred in Sept 2021 when the SB National Forest was closed for essentially the whole month… right in the middle of prime thermal flying season.  The 30 NOV closure date for the current order might be a bit of a surprise for some, but considering some of the devastating fires that have occurred across the state over the last two years, it makes sense.

    With that said, its is likely they assigned an end date that is more than two months away out of an abundance of caution.  If anything changes we will update this post accordingly.  Hopefully things turn out for the better and the order will end earlier than currently listed.

    Use of USFS lands is what is what is covered by the order. Use of FS lands for launching gliders along with all other uses except accessing private property, are prohibited due to the fact that the launch, or the activity occurs on FS land.

    The order covers only FS property noted in Ex. A, not private property and definitely not airspace.
    <p style=”text-align: left;”>Just sayin. In case the crime and punishment  loyer POleece types start  thinking that seeing a glider in the sky constitutes proof of violating the order.</p>

    Use a GPS tracker if you plan to launch from above the pond and thermal out.

    Interesting… the exemptions state residents. I guess residents who live in the line fire zone can fly… They are exempt. Sorry flatlanders…

    Residents are exempt from the order. Does this mean Locals can fly? Legally, it does… any comments?

    It doesnt specify  residents of any specific area. So, i read it to include any and all. Cant read their minds, only what is written.

    #21011

    My thoughts exactly… and Crestline Launch isn’t on any of the banned roads… Hmmmmm…

    As much fun as guessing is, a club rep could contact the Forest Service to establish what is currently possible.
