Here is a good one… Rumor has it that, when I issued a P3 to Peter Pivka in 2015:

    • I was pressured by him.
    • I accepted a large amount of money in exchange.

I clear Peter of any pressure beyond that of a normal request (a sufficient reason for this public post), and my bookkeeping indicates collecting $40 on 2015/9/20, in exchange of…

    1. Evaluating his experience (see paragraph below), up to that date.
    2. Written exam, review and discussion.
    3. Associating my name to a rating.

Which leaves me with about $32 net profit, after tax and some expenses.
I charge more these days, but my main interest is helping pilots, following a fair assessment.

Instructors get requests from pilots with previous ratings from elsewhere. When deciding to issue a new rating, it is wise to consult with former providers and weigh their input. Personal observations and input from independent pilots is also important. Future events cannot be used in making a current decision, and past “signs” can later be amplified to serve an agenda.

This specific rumor may have been reinforced by the hope that an accident which happened 3 years later (2018/7/21), could have been avoided if the rumor was true.

People mentioned in a rumor are often last to know about it, and rumors get juicier when retold.
Promotors of a rumor often see a benefit, and favor delaying its discovery by the people mentioned.
Dispelling a rumor depowers its promoters.
My thanks to the person who shared yesterday, creating an opportunity.

If you know of another one involving me (and related to flying), I encourage to post it here.
Curious to know why I am online later than most? Instead of a funny rumor, just ask.

PS. This message was spouse-reviewed prior to posting (self-moderation).

I heard a rumor that you were patient and forthcoming with your advice when asked for it.

Other than that, I try to steer clear of the rumor mill.

    Just like Fleetwood Mac

Rumours is the eleventh studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. Largely recorded in California in 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut.
