    Heads Up!

Just wanted to give you all the latest on the September fly in. Well, we’ve ended up with a scheduling conflict with Sylmar (Dahlsten Cup Race), so to avoid a clash and limit the amount of fun pilots can have, we’ve decided to push our event back by a week. We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to attend and get the most out of each day at both sites.

The original date was September 13th.

The new date will be September 20th.

We understand this might affect some of your schedules, and we sincerely apologize for the last minute change. We believe this new date will allow more people to attend and enjoy both events. Changes to our “mini clinics” will be announced a week prior to the fly in. Thanks to everyone who were/are able and willing to lend a hand. You are so very appreciated.

We are still waiting to hear from club members on what games or raffles you missed at the last fly in. We’d love to hear from you on what you think would be fun!

Thanks for your understanding, and feel free to ask any questions.

Bump… for the September 20th fly-in.  I am hoping to make it and fly my “Super Floater” air chair style glider (similar to the GOAT or BUG gliders).  I will need to brush off a bit of dust and would be more motivated to fly it if I know there is any interest from any club members interested in checking out the air chair style or class of gliders.  Myself and three other CSS members own individual or in partnership two Super Floaters, one Goat and a BUG gliders.  We could use some “young bloods” that want to fly these type of gliders to join our group and to encourage us all to start flying them more often.

As a side note I will probably post a listing in the marketplace for a Brightstar Swift Glider as well as a HG Doodlebug power harness.  I would prefer to find someone (ones) that would like to be a partner on the Swift rather than sell it outright, and could bring these to the Fly-in as well.  If interested text me at 951 eight-one-three 5186.   Thanks, Alan.    (See you in the air)

    Thanks Alan!

The volunteers for the mini clinics will not be able to attend on the 20th, so your “Super Floaters” may be just the featured excitement we need for the fly in! We would be grateful for valuable information regarding your unique aircrafts.

We still haven’t heard any feedback about desired games, raffles, etc., so it may be an easy-going mountain day of flying, food and friends.

Please bring your submissions for the new T-shirt design. We’d love to see your ideas represent CSS.

It would be fun to see the Super Floater. I hope you can make it happen.

In addition, would you mind if two old hang pilots side-lined for medical reasons made a fly by in something a high school class built? It would be a red and silver RV12. Of course we’d respect FAA altitude requirements and carefully avoid our ultralight soaring friends. So if this is okay, perhaps we could circle the LZ in the late afternoon and take a few pics of the colorful gliders resting on the ground.

    Hi Thomas,

What a fabulous idea!! Boy, I wish we were able to give an enthusiastic “YES!” to your proposed fly by, although after speaking with our safety director, we would have to decline the offer. I’m so sorry we can’t see this aircraft fly over the LZ at the fly in. Perhaps seeing the Super Floater along with a game, a raffle and delicious barbeque will make up for it? I hope so.

We will have a 50/50 raffle and a balloon bomb drop for an accuracy challenge. Sandy will be there with her all-star sweet treats. We always need cheerleaders on the sidelines ;)

It’ll be a beautiful mountain sunset, of course. Let’s enjoy the best the day has to offer!

Thank you Mimi. That was kindest “no” I’ve ever heard. I will certainly respect your wishes for I don’t want anyone to be annoyed or scared of a plane circling the LZ, but I would like to point out that CSS controls a patch of ground, not the air above it. There will be dozens of small planes flying through the airspace you’ll enjoy on this gathering and most know nothing of the ultralight soaring community. To have one of your own share the sky would probably be the safest addition of the noisy kind you could have.

Again, I will respect your wishes for I have the utmost appreciation for CSS. I still hope to one day rejoin the club flying my half-built Goat, or, if my shoulder heals enough, spread the wings of my dusty S-2 still hanging in my garage .

With complete sincerity, I hope it’s a great day at AJX!

That’s mighty kind of you, Thomas. Thank you for your support and understanding. We hope you’ll join us for the day and spread your wings whenever possible!

The Pond will open for swimming from 4 to 7 pm.  Rides will be provided in the Ranger, no personal vehicles are allowed to go up the pond road for safety reasons.

Will the pond be open to friends and family of CSS members?

    #22846

    Tom,

Yes, as long as they are accompanied by the CSS member sponsoring them. Generally, the only way we can continue to have swimming available is when a representative from the Conservancy is present to monitor activity. As long as everyone keeps that in mind and behavior at the Pond keeps safety in mind, we can do it this way during special events.

Cool, thanks. My son and grandson have been asking.
