Hello, again my fellow pilots. I woke up this morning saddened to read such turmoil among us, myself being the subject. I am in tears seeing what is going on and I would like nothing more than to work towards reconciliation.

I am complying with the requests made by the board and have addressed the allegations that resulted in my membership ban. The first letter that I received from the board asked me to cease and desist from (accused) actions/activities, which I have addressed in my first post. The second letter I received from the board was my 30 day ban letter. The 30 day ban letter stated that a 30 day ban was being enforced due to my accused “disregard of our [board] specific requests to keep your horses off of CSS property and your dog under control.” My 1 year ban letter states that the Board is instituting a 1 year suspension of my membership and reads ” you both continue to violate the rules by entering CSS property multiple times since you were notified of the suspension, as recently as today. Your dogs have also been on property on at least four occasions since the suspension began and you have refused to keep them on a leash to prevent them from entering the property.” The 30 day ban letter does not have a date listed in text for when the 30 day suspension ended and instead reads that “the ban will last for one month from the date you receive the letter”. The letter was hand delivered by a Board member.

Board members are now writing in the forum, accusing me of intimidating members, making members feel “unsafe,” that I “terrify” people, that I cause people to fear for their life, and so on. This is heartbreaking. The videos and comments posted by board members accusing me of harassment and abuse does not feel like fair treatment. These new accusations have never been addressed in any notices that I have received from the board. If this content is not noted in any notices I received from the board or pertaining to my ban, why is it being posted publicly now by board members?

Board members, I am trying my best and I would like to work together to resolve these matters. Even if I am not favored by Board members, shouldn’t I still be entitled to fair proceedings and impartial treatment by the Board. Board member’s friendships with other members and/or preference in ride services should not by be a factor in this matter.

The video with Sandy in it is over a year old. If this content was felt to be pertinent and if I was allegedly such a threat, why was this not addressed with me previously? Why was I not notified by the board? I do not wish Sandy, Dale or anyone for that matter, any harm, emotionally or physically. I have never threatened Sandy’s well being and she has always been welcomed to use the road. Our businesses can operate and co-exist peacefully. If Sandy, Dale or any members expressed to you in the past that they felt threatened or harassed, these matters should have been addressed with me by the board at that time. I should have been informed verbally and in writing as well as allowed to respond.

I would like to mend relationships and move in a positive direction. I would like to resolve our differences and enjoy AJX together, as we have so many times before. I do not harbor resentment for anyone. I have so much gratitude for those who show their support and concern for Nicole and I. We are devastated by this situation.

Using Tim as an example (and distraction), who wrote: “I was pretty spectacularly angry.”

When we are verbally aggressive and/or threatening:

    • It often follows being afraid, and we feel justified…
That person “cut me off” (on the road or in the sky), now I need to “teach him a lesson”.
He insulted/threatened my wife, now he will have to deal with me. Will Smith moment.
    • We can be reported for harassment to USHPA. Hint: They don’t like it.
    • We think “I showed him”, while in fact we turned off the receiver’s listening mode, but succeeded in leaving a lasting impression that we are cuckoo.

It feels unfair, but for all the great things we do, our worst moment can be our downfall.

Guys, we all have our bad moments, and I have no reason to question all the accusations toward Gene, but I know many more examples of him being nice and attentive and helpful , with students and seasoned pilots alike. Encouraging, supporting, checking for pitfalls, helping set up, and watching launches – he’s the instructor’s right hand, and many times his presense saved the day and the flight. IDK if Sandy is an active pilot, but if she isn’t, then students on launch will be worse without proper supervision.
As for intimidation – I wonder why nothing was / is being done with one of instructors, who was threatening another pilot right here on the forum, and if selective judgement is being applied on a case by case basis.

I’m all for fair business practice, and having more ways to get to launch is good for all of the AJX, but getting more students progress to novice and beyond is an important goal too, and I think we have a chance to balance those goals

I’m sorry that so many of you are willing to excuse Gene’s behavior because you want to maintain his ride service.  First, his ride service still exists.  You just have to walk two or three minutes to get to him  So let’s forget that argument.  I am so glad that Jana posted the videos of Gene in action.  Those are not normal actions of a person who just temporarily loses his temper.  The actions shown, and that so many of us have been subjected to, go far beyond acceptable behavior in civilized society.  Excuses are being made for him but they don’t hold water.  Gene has acted this way for years, if not decades.  So it can’t be blamed on a period of cancer treatment.  What Gene does is criminal abuse.  He threatens peoples lives and well being.  That is NEVER acceptable or excuseable.  Any person who has been subjected to his behavior could  have had him charged with criminal assault as he clearly puts those people in fear.  CSS is a club.  Members pay dues to join the club and enjoy what the club provides.  No one is legally entitled to be a club member if they are going to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.  The other club members should never have to worry about being subjected to such criminal behavior, or even such behavior that might not quite rise to the level of criminality.  It seems correct that Gene’s criminal threats of harm to others was not a factor in the one year ban from club property.  However, it is my strong opinion that such actions by Gene warrant suspension, even a lifetime suspension.  Since Gene and his supporters are demanding “due process”, the club should give him that process.  But there is nothing to prevent the Board members from now expanding its concerns to include Gene’s threats to so may people, threats that are well documented and indisputable.  His actions cannot be excuses and they cannot be further tolerated.  I don’t believe for one minute that Gene has written his responses to the club actions that have been posted here.  But even assuming that the did, he continues to refuse to admit to his actions, both those for which he was suspended and for those well documented actions of criminal threats.  Give me a break that I am supposed to believe that Gene is sitting in his home shedding tears over all of this.  And if in fact he is, then it’s only because he can no longer engage in his reign of terror and control on CSS property.  The Board cannot back off at this point.  If the Board does, Gene will be evermore empowered to continue with his unacceptable and criminal activities on CSS property.  Nothing he has done in the past can justify ignoring his actions.  Actions must result in consequences in a civilized society.  The Board needs to not only stand by its existing suspension but should consider more serious actions based on the massive evidence of criminal activity through Gene’s threats and intimidation.  No other CSS Board dared to cross Gene but this one has.  The Board needs member support and must move forward with its completely justified and correct actions.

That is not the first time you mentioned that ; on this Thread.

I fly HG , way more than I fly PG ; I have Never received a ride, (from Gene) to Regionals , or any other launch site, associated with CSS  , for the purpose of flying a Hang glider. I like Gene for other reasons : He is a Great pilot with both Hang gliders , (Rigid and Rogallo) and Paragliders as well  , and he has flown with me for many Many years , on all those machines.

    Bo said :

…I had seen the same instructor and his paying passenger roll up to launch with Gene when it clearly was blown out for launching a paraglider.  I didn’t say anything that day, assuming that the instructor wouldn’t be so reckless as to try to launch in those winds.  I had my hang glider with me and hadn’t even taken it out of the bag due to the strong winds. … Bla Bla Bla Bla …the stable tandem wing took over and flew away from launch …

So let me get this clear :

You sat on takeoff , (With a Hang glider) and were too scared to launch ; even though a PG in YOUR own words : “Flew Away from Launch” ?

Yea Dude ; I for Sure would disregard anything you have to say about flying as well. LOL

If it were me , even with a WW 220 Falcone  ; I would have no problem flying, when a PG was already in the air. Your statement says a lot about your flying ability ; and some may even tend to believe that Bo may have a few envy issues ?

I can tell from the way you have posted in this Thread ; Bo does Not like Gene , and he is willing to push the same idealism on unsuspecting others.

Stick to the Facts as described in the first letter about Genes ban from CSS ; everything else is just outright vindictive (.)

Well Bille, you gave me my laugh of the day with your last post.  If you think there is something to be gained by criticizing me or questioning my pilot skills, go for it.  But this isn’t about me.

So your defense of Gene is that he is a “Great pilot.”  Again, what’s the relevance of that?  That’s the worst excuse yet.  You want facts then here are facts, straight from the recordings of Gene posted in this thread; straight from Gene’s mouth.

Speaking to Dale and Sandy, upset over who gets $20 for a ride:  I’ll put you down so ffucking fast; you’ll be fucking not breathing Dale.”  Those threats against Dale and Sandy justify a lifetime suspension from the club.

Second video from a pilot, who according to Gene, when asked by Stephen what the pilot had done, “Came up to my place hauling ass.”  Absolutely no mention of touching, threatening or intimidating Nicole.  So this is how Gene responded to this pilot “hauling ass” by his place:

“Stare at me more fuckhead.  I’m going to fucking break your jaw.  I’m going to teach you some fucking respect.  Get away from me because because I will fucking drop you.  I’ve done it all my life.  I have broken more jaws than you have ever seen.  I’ve been trained.  I’ll fucking break your knees.  I own this muther fucking place.  I’ll bust your knees.  I’ll take your throat.  I’m going to eat you for fucking lunch.  I’m going to ruin your life.  You are a piece of shit.  I built this place.”

So Bille, I don’t care if Gene is the best hg/pg pilot who ever walked the Earth, no club should tolerate a member who acts this way.  And you are correct, I don’t like Gene or anyone else who would act this way.  I’ll just go back now to sitting on launch being too “scared” to set up and launch my hg when it’s gusting over 30 at Regionals while watching an innocent tandem passenger nearly get smashed into the ground following a tandem pg launch attempt with Gene hanging on to try to anchor the pilot and passenger during launch.  I would think that a “Great” pilot might recommend not launching in such conditions.  But, for now, I’ll just wait and hope that the Board will take all necessary actions to rid CSS property from the likes of Gene.

    @ Bo :

Your getting Really worked up about stuff that is totally unrelated to why the board recommended a ban on Gene ; sounds like you have an agenda.

This will be my last post regarding this issue.  Bille, you are absolutely correct.  I am worked up and I do have an agenda.  My agenda is to make the CSS property a safe and fun place for all club members.  To accomplish that goal, Gene must be banned from CSS property.  You are hyper focused on the fact that the original ban did not include Gene’s criminal threats of violence to club members and others.  But demands were made that Gene be allowed to attend a meeting of the Board and defend his actions.  My position is that since the Board members are going to hold a meeting, with Gene invited to attend, the Board should consider ALL issues related to Gene, not just horses and dogs.  In fact, the Board has made it clear that it did consider issues other than dogs and horses before it instituted the ban on Gene.  I am simply asking the Board to now consider all of Gene’s actions which clearly would include those shown in the videos posted by Jana.  The Board can do so or not do so.  That’s up to the Board.  But my agenda, my goal, is to have the Board do everything it can to prevent Gene from ever again making such criminal threats against anyone on CSS property, or even making someone uncomfortable while being on CSS property.  Is that too much to expect?  I think not.  I am worked up about that as I think all members should be.  That’s all I have to say about this.

I already Knew , that you had an agenda ; it’s the reason , or the Why you are so Hyper focused on destroying Gene that I questioned ? I am quite certain, that  there is some other unresolved issue, or issues you had with Gene in the past,  that prompted your actions ; if I keep digging , (I’m sure it will come to light) ! Would you like to just tell me what it is ; or do I find out on my own , (and I will) ?

I have always liked Gene but I find the videos disappointing and disheartening.   It’s not okay for someone to talk to another this way.    It’s gross and offensive.    All I want to do is fly and these kinds of confrontations create such a toxic environment.

In both cases, the other party tried to walk away and diffuse the situation and could not.   That is not okay, it is harassment.    Ick.

Great chat – this is the first time I have seen it. I am a relative outsider, P1 flying only about once per week. Thanks to all of you who give your time and energy to make AJX the amazing place that is!  I am hoping someone can help me understand when Gene might be allowed back to the LZ. I don’t understand what all we t down but Gene is a huge help to me and I would love it if I could grab rides from him at the LZ.

Yesterday, he was also a huge help to a hike-n-flyer stranded due to heat exhaustion. The hiker called Gene knowing he would do everything needed to get him to safety.  Thanks Gene!

I didn’t get an answer to my question about when Gene will be allowed back to the LZ.  Is there a way to direct this question to Ed Wiggins?  I think he is the president of the board.
