General MemberTinkered with something for my own amusement and use, but anyone else that wants to is free to try it out. I thought it would be handy to have Siri read me the current site conditions (readouts from all of the weather stations), which I’d use either in the car on the drive up to AJX, or even from the air while flying. No need to even exit out of my flight instrument app (Flyskyhy), as you can activate Siri even with another app active. Instructions below if you want to try it out (beta forever):
- First, make sure you have the “Shortcuts” app (by Apple). This was installed by default in a previous major iOS update, but some of you may have deleted it. It can be found in the App Store here (if you already have it, skip to step 2): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shortcuts/id1462947752
- From your iPhone, click on this link to download a new shortcut (this shortcut contains instructions for Siri on where to look for weather data for our site): https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/0f2c1c6f4c5245b492af2686c0b98c6d
- A screen from the Shortcuts app will pop up – click the “Add Shortcut” button.
Now, as long as you have Siri activated, you can say “Hey Siri – CSS Weather” and she will read back the most current readings from each weather station (in order of highest elevation to lowest). Depending on your phone’s current security settings, the screen may have to be unlocked to hear the readout.
Don’t know if Android has similar automation apps available, but if there is one that will pull text from a website and read it back to you with a voice command, ask here on this thread and I can provide you with a URL that spits out the text.
Maybe version 70 in the distant future will tell you where the thermals are.
Enjoy.

General MemberOther note: it currently only returns 8-point compass direction for wind direction, but I will soon be updating the data to use 16 instead (so you’d get all of the SSW, NNE, etc directions). Coming soon.

General MemberFor those that have downloaded this already, you may way to remove it and download again (using the link above, which I updated). Small tweak so it works better when your screen is locked (better behavior if you’re using it in the car).
