This Saturday we will doing work on the LZ with the small John Deere Tractor.  This job is necessary and unfortunately we couldn’t schedule it for a mid-week day to avoid conflicts with landings.  We will try our best to finish in the morning hours, but here is what to look out for just in case.

    – The Tractor will be pulling a Core Aerator (Spike Drum).  This shouldn’t present an issue as the Operator will keep an eye out for landing pilots and easily be able to pause operations and keep distance.

    – Probably the bigger issue to look out for is the markers that will be used at all the sprinkler heads.  Neon colored fiberglass rods with steamers will be placed in the grass where every sprinkler is so that we don’t run over them with the Spike Drum.  These will be flexible rods that will be 36 to 48 inches tall and will have a bright orange streamer.  There are 38 sprinklers on the LZ so will you will have LOTS of streamers for wind direction.  PGs shouldn’t have any issues landing since the sprinklers are placed pretty far apart, just try not to drop your wing directly on top of one.  HG’s need to be careful as there could be a risk of puncturing a wing if you flared right on top of a marker.  If they are coming at you while in ground effect glide, whacking them won’t hurt you or the glider and its ok to kick them over (just please put it back).

We will do our best to remove them as soon as we are done with the Spike Drum, but we need to make two passes over the LZ is opposing directions so it will take several hours.

Please be patient and understanding, all of the work is done by Volunteers and we don’t have much flexibility in choosing the day.  Sunday is the back-up day in case we have technical problems on Saturday.  If you see the marker/streamers out on the LZ, then the job is still in progress.
