As much as I enjoy seeing a consensus towards a long-term solution that will benefit all members (this discussion rapidly evolved into this), the original poster is still hoping for an immediate fix for his students. Maybe the best path for the latter is…
First privately ask other schools if they are OK with the idea (maybe avoid line-snagging hardware, remove/store the materials at the end of each teaching day, avoid creating a reserved desirable area). Then privately ask the board to proceed with the “all school pre-approved idea”.
Good luck, and happy kiting.

Some of us don’t like that idea of more carpet and some suggested an alternative like some Turf type stuff (like what is near the shade structure). It seems there is no one giving you crap about using the turf and I know most of us, if not all of us, would like the present situation improved for you and everyone else using that area for kiting and teaching.
Again thanks for asking and I for one appreciate the efforts of anyone that improves our flying site, especially when it comes to safety. Thanks.
October 19, 2024 at 8:47 PM #21134Yes. AstroTurf would be better because it’s way heavier and won’t flyway as easy as we have experienced with the pieces by the pavilion. Again if I get a hold of some AstroTurf would all of you be ok with me staking it to the ground with curved rebar to avoid line snagging?
And just so you guys know all I want is to be able to protect my gear until the club finds a new source of water cuz it seems like we lost the main source of water and now the grass won’t be able to grow again.
I went through this last season and here I’m again begging for a clean surface to lay my gear. Please find me a solution.October 19, 2024 at 9:41 PM #21135Jerome DaoustGeneral MemberFine with me (AstroTurf anchored with large rebar staples), and hopefully the board approves your request.
In addition, it can be viewed as a useful experiment, for when the board considers a larger install for the kiting area. I’m curious to see if sand infill (reasons to use it) will be needed to keep it in place during strong wind, in addition to the rebar staples. Perfect time to start the experiment as we enter the season for North winds.
