I can’t think of a more foolish way to deal with that size landing surface than artificial grass.

Horribly expensive and oh wait in ten years you get to pay tens of thousands of dollars to get it disposed and then do it all over again.  UV turns artificial grass into polyester pellets and trash over time.

I’m also amazed that I’ve  not been hearing people talk of strategic grass management, only where it’s needed.  Twin runway strips that are each only 40 or 50′ wide, a breakdown area, a kiting area for paragliding, and perhaps a launching strip at the southwest corner.  All the rest can be drought tolerant ground cover that can survive with only occassional watering during the summer.

It would be nice to be able to afford your massive grass landing area but your civic leaders will continue to make sure you pay dearly for that luxury.
