There is a lot of evidence of a mouse or mice all over inside storage container #2. There are droppings and piss at least half way up to the top shelf on glider bags and padding chewed for nesting. I saw at least one spot that looked like nesting on the floor. The Sylmar club had a problem with this a few years ago and one of the sails was completely chewed through. I didn’t have time to do more, but the gliders should be taken out and that place cleaned out. There is a lot of junk on the ground in there…

May 15, 2023 at 6:49 PM #18124I would suggest that all members who gliders stored in #2 remove their wings and other gear as soon as possible. I am working on pest mitigation measures and will get something done as soon as possible.
If anyone who is close to the site can check the other containers and let me know if they find any droppings, chewing, nests or other evidence please let me know. We may need to do a complete clear out of all the containers and smoke them out, plus clear out any carcasses (that’ll smell lovely in the summer if we don’t).
May 15, 2023 at 7:15 PM #18125Traps will be placed in Container #2 tomorrow (Tuesday). I would still highly encourage everyone who has Gliders or Gear in there to check on it as soon as possible, inspect everything, and wash your glider bags. It would be a good idea to wear a mask when entering and use disposable gloves. We are going with traps to avoid having dead mouse bodies in unreachable places. Will update as needed.

May 16, 2023 at 12:56 PM #18129Tim WardGeneral MemberOkay. There’s now 4 traps in #2.
I don’t know whose idea it was to bolt one of the handles shut but it didn’t speed things up.
I also cleaned out the weeds that got clamped in the right hand door.
I suspect this was their ingress.
May 16, 2023 at 3:24 PM #18132Thanks Tim. Can you keep us informed as to whether the mouse infestation seems to be taken care of and it seems safe to use #2 again. I had a friend move my 2 gliders out of there and into container #4 until the problem is taken care of. He said that the odor in #2 was awful. Fortunately he didn’t see any damage to my gliders.
May 16, 2023 at 6:37 PM #18135I checked mine this past weekend and everything looked good.
Maybe we could let this sucker loose in the containers for a few weeks to end the visiting mice?

May 17, 2023 at 7:46 AM #18138Marc DeschenesGeneral MemberThere’s space for another glider on my shelf. If your glider bag is free of mouse pee and droppings you’re welcome to store it there till the problem is resolved. Just let me know.
May 17, 2023 at 10:47 AM #18140Tim WardGeneral MemberNo. I don’t mind doing things to help, but I left the site coordinator job.
Frankly, I didn’t see a lot of mouse droppings, but I wasn’t looking really hard.
There must be a local that has a glider in there that can monitor the mousetraps and reset them as necessary.
May 17, 2023 at 8:18 PM #18143Mark HoffmannGeneral MemberThere are a lot of droppings in #2 >> no pun intended :) … lots of chewed nesting materials… The wings should be removed and at least swept off. And the container should be hosed out.
May 18, 2023 at 10:11 AM #18144Tim WardGeneral MemberOkay. Well, I removed the vegetation in the doors and stuck some traps in every box.
Dusty sprayed a peppermint based rodent repellent around. You’d have to ask him exactly where.
I checked yesterday and no dead mice in mousetraps.May 21, 2023 at 3:40 PM #18188Tim WardGeneral MemberI don’t know how, but one trap took out a mouse and a smaller mouse with one snap.
I reset it.Smells very pepperminty in #2.

Either a double-header or a ground rule double. Perhaps, two heads are better than one? Take your pick.
