Just when we thought we knew everything about Big Ears.
In Germany and Switzerland, they are now teaching to apply 1/3 to 1/2 speedbar, BEFORE pulling in ears on a paraglider, then (after ears folded) apply more speedbar as needed but not 100% (unless necessary) to still allow for pitch control.
It makes sense, to reduce the AofA (angle of attack) a bit with speedbar, ahead of increasing it with the ears. That way the AofA is never greater than it was with an undeformed wing. If you’re the kind of person who likes to learn the details, click these links…
