Nathan yes. That was NOT one of my better days. Like the majority of aviation accidents, the cause was pilot error. I launched with a wing low, and spun right back into the mountainside. My bad. I will make no excuses for myself, but, if it would not have been for my tremendous innate natural flying abilities…cough cough, the results would have been much worse…I think the correct word is, luck! LOL  Thank you for sitting with me while I got my wits back after impact. I am still waiting for my new replacement teeth from the VA…

Well, your altitude that day was not super great, but your attitude definitely was. And that’s ultimately the way it counts in this sport. Nice save and long may the spirit of the E shine upon you.

    Windsock update…

I now have real windsocks for Cloud Peak and for the 12in windsock by the shade structure. But, I am going to wait until the winds have died down some before installing them. Thank you to the pilot that donated a windsock. I mounted it on the pole to the west of the storage containers. When the powerful North winds hit, I went to the LZ to take it down. Sadly, I was not quick enough and it was all ready shredding in the wind. but it is still on the pole and can be put back up so pilots can get some use out of it.  I have a sewing machine, but I am NO Seamster. My sewing is not pretty, but, I have found I can fabricate a windsock that does the job, and I have the sail off of an old WW Fusion, so I have plenty of material to work with. I am going to sew up some more socks, and streamers so that when these wear out, we have replacements.

I’m thinking an aluminum wind indicator like below , might work better ; It wont shred in the wind as easy. It could be made with a hinge on the front so it droops down in light winds …
