Just what were they filming? I asked but the reply was vague and uninformative…I would like to see the finished video product. Was it an advertisement, documentary, adult video? Just curious, no big wow.

Merry Christmas to all, and may everyone have a happy new year!

I am very interested. I was, (past tense) looking at an EGO trike on an ATOS. But, I got a nasty gram from the VA saying I owe them money. so, The EGO is going to have to wait. But I got to find another way to keep flying. Flying prone is causing me so much pain that I can only fly for 45 min now at best. I once owned a Quicksilver “M” It is so bitchen taking off of flat ground! But you could not turn the motor off. My Quick had a glide ratio of a rock or may be a picnic table. but this EGO looks pretty good. I just takes some $$$

Well, I did my patriotic duty and voted in the USHPA election. One glaring thing stood out as I looked at the choices of representatives. Out of all the possible choices, there was not one hang glider pilot on that list! Not one, sad. I am too damn old and do not have the skills needed to fill the position. BUT…in all of the flying community, there is not an HG pilot who could at least throw their hat into the ring? WE started this thing way back in the day, Yet our kind have no representation in the club that we pioneered (USHGA/USHGPA). Evolution is a cruel and uncaring bitch. There is now only one Hang glider manufacture left in all the United States, and they are only half-hearted at best…ever hear of anyone winning a major comp flying a Liberty or a Horizon? If hang gliders were animals, we would be on the Endangered Species List! LOL                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           I have been flying seance the days of bamboo and plastic, before The USHGA even existed. I even got paid to fly my hang glider as a stuntman. (Young Andy “WAIT!…you want me, to fly my kite, and get paid for doing it??? YES, THERE IS A GOD!”) I have watched flying change from a 1960s happening into a real sport. Some changes were for the good and some were even necessary if the sport was to survive without the heavy hand of government becoming involved. But not all. Since the dissolution of the Hang Glider Manufacturers Association (HGMA) in 2022, there is no longer even a centralized body certifying hang glider designs in the U.S. Instead, safety certification now relies on the manufactures themselves. Allowing companies to self-regulate does not always work out too well, just look at Boeing aircraft.

But enough of this pity party Andy, you want some cheese with your whine? Your just unhappy that you can no longer fly like these young whipper snappers that crack off 100 mile XCs like it was just another day. But this old bird-man is going to keep flying for as long as he can, but my time on this planet grows short.

    Enjoy the future kids.                                                                                                                                          Andy…

Thank you Luke for staying on top of this. Previous BODs have worked with Previous owners of the property to the East of the LZ. You are right. THEY have lots of lawyers and deep pockets to fund those lawyers. The best the club can do is be respectful to them and maybe get them to make the area adjacent to our LZ one of the green spaces they are required by law to build into the plan for the development to come. Hopefully they will recognize the potential that having a world class flying site next to their property could be. Maybe offer their representative a tandem ride so they could see for themselves what an asset CSS could be. This was done in the past and had very positive results. but, alas, that company sold the land to another company and…You already know the story far better than I do. So, just keep up the good work that you and the present BOD are doing and hope for the best.

Please provide date and Time of Pond Maintenance and I will be there. I love The Pond, and I am happy to volunteer my time to help keep it in good repair.

    Windsock update…

I now have real windsocks for Cloud Peak and for the 12in windsock by the shade structure. But, I am going to wait until the winds have died down some before installing them. Thank you to the pilot that donated a windsock. I mounted it on the pole to the west of the storage containers. When the powerful North winds hit, I went to the LZ to take it down. Sadly, I was not quick enough and it was all ready shredding in the wind. but it is still on the pole and can be put back up so pilots can get some use out of it.  I have a sewing machine, but I am NO Seamster. My sewing is not pretty, but, I have found I can fabricate a windsock that does the job, and I have the sail off of an old WW Fusion, so I have plenty of material to work with. I am going to sew up some more socks, and streamers so that when these wear out, we have replacements.

Damn, that’s just not right! I volunteer go help with the removal of the gliders, if it has not all ready been done.

Nathan yes. That was NOT one of my better days. Like the majority of aviation accidents, the cause was pilot error. I launched with a wing low, and spun right back into the mountainside. My bad. I will make no excuses for myself, but, if it would not have been for my tremendous innate natural flying abilities…cough cough, the results would have been much worse…I think the correct word is, luck! LOL  Thank you for sitting with me while I got my wits back after impact. I am still waiting for my new replacement teeth from the VA…

Thank you. I picked up the orange windsock. But I think I got my wires crossed. The information I am receiving is that the sock on Cloud is an 18in. I have placed an order for an 18in x 60 sock, and I added a 2 year replacement warranty on the sock too.

Thanks again to all who have replied.

Andy smiles. I have a lot of “There I was, thought I was going to DIE stories!” I read the article in I think it was Popular Science? And I was hooked. I am self taught. So, I found/put myself in situations that caused moments of intense and extreme pucker factor! People coming into the sport now, both HG&PG are so fortunate to have both certified equipment, instructors and the vast amount of knowledge and experience they have to impart. To my knowledge, there are no killer wings anymore. Yes, some are easier/harder to fly, but back in the day there were wings that were flat out deadly due to design flaws.
