Luke
Please explain Steve’s current behavior? What is he accused of doing by you?
- Mimi said the reason the BOD mintues haven’t been posted is do to the mayor coming out this month and BOD minutes haven’t been posted here since September 2025!
June 18, 2026 at 9:18 PM #24099There have been two meetings that I can recall since the Sep 25 meeting. One in Dec 25 and another in April 26 I believe. It could be three, if I’m not mistaken. I can’t answer for the Club Secretary about the status of each meeting minutes, but I can confirm that the entire board has been wrapped up in numerous, time-consuming, and exhausting club business issues, primarily the Developer next door but also on-going insurance tasks, Steve’s squatting on Encore property (which they found us liable for enabling), site work, tractor repairs, pond repairs, irrigation repairs, the film crew earlier this year, etc.
People quickly react to any issue at the club with same response, ‘Where are the minutes?’, while they take no consideration of how much stuff the board has been working on, and this year has been very busy. Also, I don’t know what anyone expects to gain from the minutes because the current issue with Steve’s recent situation and the question of his membership just came up less than a week ago, so it hasn’t made it into any meeting minutes.
I’m pretty sure I’ve adequately covered Steve’s behavior. No reasonable person should think that living in the LZ for the last 8 years is acceptable in any way.

General MemberI suggest that further discussion on the topic of meeting minutes move to the post I previously created on the subject: https://crestlinesoaring.org/topic/boarding-meeting-minutes/
These are two distinct topics and the minutes discussion is muddling the conversation on Steve’s situation.

General MemberLuke,
Thank your detailed response. I understand the tension he caused with encore and it has been a pain to the board.
I do not believe that anyone is disagreeing with the board on point 1. Steve cannot camp on CSS property or the neighboring properties. If he refrains from further camping in our vicinity, would the board still have reason to want to exclude him from the property? It sounds like it does, but I can’t imagine what harm he would be doing.
June 19, 2026 at 7:03 AM #24104Historically, there have been people living on or about the property since its inception. Days, weeks months even years at a time.
It is a design feature of a landing zone. A van with a vagabond pilot inside.
So too is the clique of what we now call Karens on the vagabond van removal committee.
I have and always will advocate hospitality. Is it on the Bylaws?
June 19, 2026 at 9:22 AM #24105Dan,
Yes, Camping was a feature of our club and many LZ’s. Some LZ’s are lucky enough to still have that feature because as you imply it IS important to the sport. We wish we could still have it, it’s especially important to visiting pilots to make the trip the more feasible by avoiding the additional expense of hotels. Unfortunately for us, camping of any kind is not allowed within city limits due to City of SB and SB County ordinances.
So the ‘Clique of Karens’ you are referring to is located at the City and County Government Offices, I encourage you to take your complaints to them.

Jana Pivkova General MemberLuke,
I disagree with you, as well as the board members who have decided to cancel Steve’s membership, which I paid for. Steve was planning on starting up flying again and will require his club membership to do so. It is not right to take away someone’s membership for the reasons you have listed and I take great issue with you for bringing such a thing to a vote.
You have always been very heavy-handed with these decisions in the past and when I was on the board with you, I frequently had to let you know that you need to back off. You’re not the emperor of the CSS, you’re supposed to follow the by-laws, inform the rest of us of what’s going on and deal with the DWR.
This club, as Dan mentioned, has always been welcoming to all who love free-flight. Do what you must to keep the club functioning, but someone like Steve who has contributed a TON of work towards maintaining the club and ranch property, deserves to be given another chance.
If he simply mooched and never did anything, never helped, I would understand, but he has poured more sweat into this club than most paying members. If you go forward with this, you definitely do not have my vote in the next election. As much as I appreciate your efforts around the LZ, you’re taking things too far and there doesn’t seem to be any push-back from the rest of the board members.
Outside of Jeff Bether, none of you have been here as long as Steve has and none of you know him as well as many of us do. He does have friends here for a reason. My vote is to allow Steve to stay, to visit the LZ like anyone else without hassle, and to pursue flying if/when he chooses. Where he parks his RV over night is nobody’s business, as long as it’s not on Encore or CSS property. We can try to help him clean up the Encore property, assuming we can arrange something, to make it right.
P.S. it would be in the club’s interest to have someone on site as a groundskeeper. You don’t have to allow camping to have someone stay on the premises and watch the place overnight, and especially during the non-flying season when we have vandals driving through. Gene played that role long ago when he was camping on the ranch property, and now we have nobody to take on that role.
June 19, 2026 at 11:23 AM #24107I’m sorry you feel that way Jana. The decision was a vote by the entire BOD, but if you want to hold me personally responsible, that’s fine.
I’m sorry if you feel that I’ve been heavy handed on any issues, no matter how minor or serious. What I’ve personally witnessed in the last 8 years I’ve been part of the Club is people who take advantage of the CSS at any given opportunity or basically walk all over the BOD when it suits them. I know you understand what that is like because you were on the BOD when situations like that occurred.
We are not kicking Steve out. He is still welcome as a Visitor as long as he follows the rules.

General MemberLuke, can you point to what provision of the bylaws allow the board to deny/cancel a membership?
June 19, 2026 at 12:04 PM #24111Thomas,
Article II, section 1, Line D.
June 19, 2026 at 12:17 PM #24112luke can you please answer my questions?
June 19, 2026 at 12:35 PM #24113David,
asked an answered.

General MemberThomas,
Article II, section 1, Line D.
This section of the bylaws does not enumerate any powers of the board, merely objectives of the society. There is a process in the bylaws (Article XI) which is the only enumerated power the board in this regard. Was the process of Steve’s membership cancelation conducted according to Article XI?

Since you can’t answer my questions makes me think it’s more of a personal vendetta for you.
I guess it would make it easier to call the cops since you’re canceling his membership.
Maybe you should have the members vote on this matter
