David Webb General MemberHail, Brian! He did all of the install and ladder climbing so buy him a beer.
David Webb General MemberLooks like hangies had sub-style harnesses way before PG. Rigid torpedo-style harness with motorized bombay doors starting at around 8:12. I wanna see someone rocking one of those around the fishbowl. :)
David Webb General MemberThe Jerome School of Thermalling™ is still up and running :)
Enjoy the new chapter.
David Webb General MemberErick – 3 PG instructors/schools on the Instruction & Training page here offer PG tandems: Atmosphere Paragliding, FlyWithJordan, and NeverLand Paragliding. They all operate independently of the club, so reach out to them directly to set up a flight with your daughter. Enjoy!
David Webb General MemberHail, Albert. Takes guts to climb that ladder.

David Webb General MemberI’m definitely not knowledgeable on the topic, but I frequently see discussions about this pointing to the following Cloudbase Mayhem article. Seems fairly comprehensive and was updated earlier this year:
David Webb General MemberFor those that have downloaded this already, you may way to remove it and download again (using the link above, which I updated). Small tweak so it works better when your screen is locked (better behavior if you’re using it in the car).
David Webb General MemberAm definitely not there everyday, so can’t comment from a local’s perspective, but the last few times I’ve been, I haven’t noticed any significant flying insect annoyances – mosquito or otherwise. There was one day on Marshall launch which people experienced a black fly swarm of Biblical proportions, but seems like that was an out-of-the-blue weird occurrence.
Knock on wood, I haven’t seen any tick activity around AJX or the launches since I’ve been flying here.
David Webb General MemberOther note: it currently only returns 8-point compass direction for wind direction, but I will soon be updating the data to use 16 instead (so you’d get all of the SSW, NNE, etc directions). Coming soon.
David Webb General MemberBump on this topic, for anyone that isn’t seeing how to start new topics (see the first post above).
David Webb General MemberThanks to Jerome for applying some de-haze magic to the original photo. :)
Nice landing! I had that very same LZ picked out if I decided not to cross the valley, but finally found a small climb just on the other side of the dam.
David Webb General MemberLooks like many of us had exciting launches, and I threw in an exciting landing as well – excitement sandwich. The rest of my flight was very mellow. Battled the wind right off of launch, but got a nice climb up to 7400′ at Marshall and everything smoothed way out for the rest of the trip. Less wind above 5k. Nice tailwind made for pleasant drifting downrange, with a few decent climbs on the way. After crossing to Crafton and setting my sights on the athletic fields by the brewery, I abandoned that idea due to the increasing headwinds. On a different day I had it on glide but not this one. Winds and sink increased the lower and closer I got to my LZ and ended up coming up a little short. Got to study the local plant life a little but still was a soft, vertical touchdown. Also thanks to Steve for the retrieve, and there was complimentary beef jerky (more than I get on an airplane).
Crafton pic:

David Webb General MemberThat would mean I’d need to pick up hang gliding and start hanging out with the bad kids though. My mom wouldn’t approve.
David Webb General MemberI was grinding it out at Pine and watched with envy your and Mario’s seemingly infinite glide back from the pass.
David Webb General MemberGit ’em!
