Here’s my take: you didn’t choose A or B, you chose the Mighty C.
John WrightGeneral MemberRIP Crash. He’d be bummed that his kids got abandoned.

a: Send an email to the whole club talking about a ban (the email I got was about a ban ending 11/20/23, sounds like yet another deal got altered)
b: Say you’re maintaining privacy
Pick A or B.
John WrightGeneral MemberGene, I love ya, buddy.
You have done so much for the club and free flight and your fellow pilots and nothing the board does against you will ever take that away.
John WrightGeneral MemberProtip, Jamie & Luke: at least one person for whom you are catching strays would never, ever do the same for you. The silence from behind the charming curtain is deafening, as it has been since 2010. I’ve been in that bunker.
Let Gene back onto the LZ, he can help me get back onto the training hill, and you & I can awkwardly avoid eye contact in perpetuity. Let him get back into the air and let him help me do the same. I don’t care what you say about me, but your actions affect me. That would be my definition of “leadership.”
John WrightGeneral MemberJamie, there’s a reason I’ve not been out and it’s leadership like yours.
Luke hit me up on Facebook chat a while back trying to get me to vote Dan out.
I’m glad Luke works hard for the club. Luke, I was wrong, that was wrong, and I apologize.
I told him no. I’ve spent more ($13K) and burned more (hike up to the 750 and everything past the pond was the dozer I rented or the brush cutter I swung) and had certain deals altered on me, cloud city style. Fool me once.
Two people have remained loyal and touched base: Dan & Gene. Flaws I have, lack of loyalty is not one of them. After Len’s benevolence, I came out to try to get interested to get back into the air, even burned a few calories, only to find that Gene is still banned from the LZ (past the date) and Dan has gotten less than appreciation for his efforts.
Would that lift were as consistent (inversely) as the CSS board. Same stuff, different decade. You are treating two of the best people and resources the club has ever had poorly, unapologetically, and even gleefully. Shame, indeed.
John WrightGeneral MemberSo, the current board seems to have removed from the board the rebar/concrete expert who laid the foundation for the shade structure and straight-up banned (beyond the original date) the heavy equipment operator that did just about every bit of terraforming above the LZ, including the pond expansion and especially the road to the 350/400.
Bold move, Cotton. May we expect a board member or two, maybe the one who emailed me out of the blue asking me to recall people, to put in mildly comparable effort? Luke, Linda? How many calories may we put you down for?
John WrightGeneral MemberI whacked the sides HG ramp. I didn’t the PG area because stray stuff in your lines.
I’d recommend a PG pilot invest in a commercial grade brush-cutter weed whacker. I truly did not know what I could do.
John WrightGeneral MemberTom, I’m definitely not using a metal blade. I’ve got my Stihl loaded with .9 line and am going to give Marshall a whack. Packing water and a fire extinguisher, even using just a line. Only getting the ones right next to the HG ramp. The PG area is someone else’s story.
Stopping by the LZ around 11:30-12 if you want a lift. I have to unload some stuff.
John WrightGeneral MemberI remember when the club members helped roll out the liner, I was boggling at the potential liability. I closed on my house that weekend and had to scramble there from the pond liner roll-out to replace a gate and lock it so I could fill my pool. An unfenced, swimmable pond was unimaginable. Glad it might still be available at all & thanks to Len, Owen, & the ranch for that.
I doubt it’s a political thing, such as retribution by the Ranch for the threat of funds being cut. The politics probably pertain to code enforcement by the County of San Berdoo. That thing started as a holding pond for watering the lawn. Not sure if it’s still doing that, but I’m low-key amazed it hasn’t been forced to be drained by the county.
John WrightGeneral MemberI have a Stihl FS-310. I used it, with a metal blade, to cut the path from the 350 to the 750.
It has a double line attachment. They blow out quickly, but I’ll try to bring surplus and give it a whackin’ Saturday morn. The fire part scares the hell outta me, so I’ll bring water, too, even with the line, if I get up in time.
John WrightGeneral MemberThank you, Len!
The legacy of your generosity will help many soar who might not have, otherwise.
John WrightGeneral MemberFor when I eventually get out of prison and get my bones back into the air, maybe a few thoughts from the HG perspective:
– I like the idea of reducing our annual nut.
– Put some astroturf out there for us to hit. IIRC, before the LZ being full grass, there were some circles. Wingtips matter.
– Dirt sucks. #2 behind UV in gear degradation. Maybe do a one-time lay-down of class 2 road base, covered by DG. It’ll be a lot kinder to gear and less abrasive on a whack… maybe.
– Seems like the PG challenge is on launch, the HG challenge is on landing. The grass more than looks purty. It saves skin. Replacing it should take that into account.
