Jana Pivkova General MemberJerome,
I think it’s pretty important for all of us to know why our board members are resigning, don’t you think? Why should that be a secret? We’re all equal in this club, we vote, we volunteer and we’re supposed to be working together to make sure the club continues to exist in peace and harmony.
When certain members volunteer to be on the board, they’re tasked with working AS A TEAM. If one or two members act without the prior approval of the other board members, or don’t bother to communicate to the rest of us what is happening with the club operations, I think that’s a huge problem.
When a board member or two, or three, decide to act against the club’s explicit by laws to kick people out, or don’t respect their other board members enough to listen, discuss and apply appropriate measures and instead act as they please against better advice, it is dangerous to the club. I will always speak up against such people. I don’t care who they are.
P.S. Are you suggesting I’m making things up to serve a narrative? Do you know me as someone who makes things up?

Jana Pivkova General MemberDerek,
Thank you for speaking sense! I wish the people who talk to me in private about this, would also come out and offer their voices, so that the board members causing unnecessary drama in this club would understand that there are many of us who absolutely disagree with the way they handled this situation.
I agree with you that calling the police for these extremely minor issues is putting the club in a bad spotlight. I agree with you that the San Bernardino PD have bigger fish to fry and calling them over to the LZ is probably irritating them to a great degree. Add to that all the flying incidents, search & rescue efforts, etc, and the club will start to look more like a liability rather than any asset to the city.
I would HIGHLY advise the board to stop calling the PD for this reason and give up this idea of banning Steve from the LZ. To then actively try to lead them to Steve’s RV, which is located somewhere far off the CSS property, is truly extra.

Jana Pivkova General MemberTo preserve the momentum, Gene got a new letter warning of violations including smoking and dog leash and the anti Sandy and Dale defamation league’s laws against frank speech.
Dan,
It gets even worse. Sandy NEVER said to them that Gene was bothering her. She never complained and didn’t feel threatened by Gene’s presence. In fact, she’s quite upset about this letter being given to Gene, because it could make him think that she was behind it! All this letter did is create more anxiety and drama for her.
July 20, 2026 at 5:57 PM #24349For Jana who states “I think it’s pretty important for all of us to know why our board members are resigning, don’t you think? Why should that be a secret?”
Until we hear it directly from the board member, for someone else to disclose/share reasons, is equivalent to gossip. Update: On July 22, Jamie allows Jana to be her representative.
Best wishes in your quest. This issue is not simple and hopefully every factor (maintaining site insurance, appropriate punishment, uniformity of rule application, disturbing police, nearby housing development, caring for a friend in need, to name a few) is correspondingly weighted towards setting future actions by the board. It would be too easy to focus on a single aspect (or a recent event) instead of the “big picture” and then contribute to the cancel culture towards a board member.
I only had positive interactions with Steve. But then again, I did not have to tell him to change his ways.

Jana Pivkova General MemberJerome,
Some people don’t want to get caught up in any potential drama and will therefore never share their true feelings publicly, even if they agree. Sometimes I do wish more people would make their voices heard, but they have their own reasons for staying quiet.
I’m at a point in my life where doing the right thing is more important than what people will think of me if I say something disagreeable. Maybe that’s just something that came to me sooner than later and I’m not judging anyone who has yet to get there. I used to be a people-pleaser, go along to get along, quiet, didn’t like to make eye contact, etc, but certain abuses simply should not be tolerated. If I see someone doing something wrong and I can attempt to make it right, I’ll do what I can.
I tried to handle this whole thing privately days before I brought it to the forum. I tried to avoid bringing it to the club members attention to the best of my ability. I don’t need, or want this attention! Unfortunately, some people can’t be reasoned with and I needed to know how others felt. I wanted to know whether I could be the one who was wrong. Posting it to the forum and asking others for their opinions opened up a whole new can of worms, and here we are.
If someone feels like they’re getting “canceled”, it might be because they allowed it to get to this point by refusing to respect and listen to multiple people along the way. When 2+2=4 and they’re trying to force you to believe that it equals 5, where do you go from there? Maybe in their universe it does equal 5. What can I do, or say to convince them otherwise? Maybe if more people speak up? Sometimes that too has no effect.
Maybe I’ve gone too far and maybe I regret ever getting involved. Maybe I should just let people do what they’re going to do and mind my own business. Why do I care about what happens to Steve? I could simply pay my club dues, show up, have fun and go home. I’m here to fly!
Oh,… that’s right,… Steve has been an asset to the flying community, a friend, so I do care what happens to him and I do care about what happens to the club. All I know is that Steve is no threat to the existence of the club, the threat is the individual who chooses to ignore the by laws, doesn’t want to be a team player and abuses the power they think they have. I’d love to think that this could be a wake-up call, but it probably is not.
July 20, 2026 at 11:38 PM #24352Jana,
Agreed, and I also thought to mention the drawn attention of the air rescues, even though I don’t believe they have the same impact as the frivolous Steve incidents. I’ve had personal conversations with pilots of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation who have expressed that they are concerned that I’ll wind up another hoist out of Waterman Canyon or in their flight path above Marshall when they trek from the High Desert to SB Airport. But, they also understand that even though it’s extremely dangerous, it’s their job and they are willing to risk their lives hoisting us out of a precarious situation. It’s what they signed up for. No cop signed up to deal with civil trespassing issues. CSS, let’s come together and find common ground on the Steve issue. I believe it’s a non issue, really. Why not hire him in some way to manage the grounds as a resident position.

General MemberCan we get some clarification from the board? Did the board or their representative call the police on Steve again? Was Steve on CSS property at the time?
July 21, 2026 at 7:21 PM #24354Hi Thomas,
To give you and the club the direct, factual answer: Yes, a non-emergency report for trespass was filed after Steve entered CSS property on at least two documented occasions following his formal notice.
To ensure everyone has the facts rather than speculation, here is what occurred:
Thursday, July 9th: Steve entered CSS property around 8:00 PM, which was documented.
Friday, July 10th: Steve returned to the property around 4:30–5:00 PM to charge his one-wheel under the shade structure. He was identified by a fellow club member who was unaware of the situation and has no desire to be involved in forum discussions.
Working with SBPD: I called the San Bernardino Police non-emergency line (the only line used) and filed an online report per the dispatcher’s instructions. There was no push for an emergency or immediate response on my part—in fact, officers didn’t come out to take a physical report until about a week later, on Friday, July 17th at 3:00 PM, simply when their availability opened up. When the officers asked during that meeting if I knew where Steve was currently located in the area, I answered their direct question and shared that his RV had been seen parked nearby.
At no point were emergency lines used, nor has anyone from the board ever tracked or harassed Steve. Answering direct questions from law enforcement during an official interview is standard cooperation, not “surveillance.”A formal notice was issued to protect the club’s legal standing, insurance, and site agreements. When a notice is violated, following standard procedure with local authorities is basic site management. If Steve had respected the notice and stayed off club property, no report would ever have been necessary.
We completely understand that members care about Steve and want to help him through personal channels. However, the board’s responsibility remains strictly focused on upholding club rules, protecting Andy Jackson Airpark, and keeping the LZ safe and operational for everyone.
On a personal note: Due to upcoming personal and family commitments, I will be stepping away from the forum and will not be reading or responding to posts here for at least the next two weeks. The questions raised here were directed specifically at Luke and me regarding these administrative actions, so please do not expect replies from other board members on this thread while I am away. Official, routine club matters will continue to be handled through standard board channels.

Jana Pivkova General MemberThursday, July 9th: Steve entered CSS property around 8:00 PM, which was documented.
Friday, July 10th: Steve returned to the property around 4:30–5:00 PM to charge his one-wheel under the shade structure. The horror!!! Lock him up! Especially after I paid for his club membership, which Luke then decided to void without a hearing (as is required by the club’s by laws and as was correctly pointed out by Rob earlier). So much for following the club rules and making us feel safe!
Apparently Luke tampered with the LZ cameras without the camera owner’s permission, so that he could surveil the BBQ area from the comfort of his home! He has gathered evidence of pilot members collecting water from the sink into jugs, to possibly hand to Steve. He then accused a pilot member of “stealing” water for the purpose of aiding and abetting this homeless criminal. Mimi should call the non-emergency PD line to file a complaint! We need to keep a record of all the pilot members stealing the LZ’s resources! Luke is making a list and checking it twice.
When the officers asked during that meeting if I knew where Steve was currently located in the area, I answered their direct question and shared that his RV had been seen parked nearby.
In other words, he wasn’t on CSS property at the time, but you were prepared to make sure he doesn’t feel safe anywhere.
We completely understand that members care about Steve and want to help him through personal channels. However, the board’s responsibility remains strictly focused on upholding club rules, protecting Andy Jackson Airpark, and keeping the LZ safe and operational for everyone.
Allow me to translate. “We understand that most of our paying club members want this person to be allowed back on the property and that our actions are highly unpopular, but we don’t care what you or the lawyers think, we’re smarter than all of you and we will go ahead and press forward. We will continue to ignore your citing of the by laws and ignore the fact that Steve is entitled to a proper hearing before we can take these actions against him. We will also continue to spy on you and frivolously call the police, until we are satisfied. We really want to make sure that our member pilots thoroughly despise us for our actions and start a petition to remove us from our volunteer positions before the next scheduled election”.
Good news everyone, Luke’s access to the cameras has been suspended by the owner. We can now feel a little safer. Did I mention Luke was entertaining the idea of removing the refrigerator and BBQ from the LZ in order to give Steve less incentive to come on the property? I guess he forgot about the other 300 members who might want to keep their drinks and food cold during their visit, who pay club dues for the privilege. He must have forgotten that we have events which involve cooking food and storing it during 100 degree temperatures.
As for “upholding club rules”, for some reason one of the board members has been parking his RV at the LZ over night (sometimes over multiple nights in a row) countless times. I’m not sure why there is an exception to his squatting. Maybe because he has an actual house to go back to, so it’s cool? I’d like to make it clear that I have nothing against that board member personally, I’m just pointing out the double standards in Luke’s and Mimi’s selective club rule enforcement. It seems they DO know how to look the other way.
July 22, 2026 at 1:28 PM #24361Jana, would you please …. STOP making up what other people are saying and putting words in their mouths (with your “translation”) and stop ascribing sinister motives and evil intents to anyone that disagrees with your OPINION (let alone the facts). The more I read your comments … the more I disagree with your position. Thank goodness Jamie is the only lawyer mentioned here, because if you were a solicitor and I was a juror…. I think your clients would fry 🙄. And could you please let us know if Jamie has authorized you to speak for her, or are you just making up what you think her opinions are as well. I will post a LONGER comment/response later, but for now I will again state that I believe Steve is a DETRIMENT to the club, for his previous inappropriate and illegal actions and his current inappropriate and illegal actions and his continuing association with the club and at AJX can and likely will adversely affect our dealings with our neighbors. I also believe it was unwise and inappropriate for you to unilaterally purchase him a club membership as some apparent end around on this issue. (I presume you are also in Favor of Tim Walz’s pardons SA offenders?).
July 22, 2026 at 4:19 PM #24362
Jana Pivkova General MemberAlan,
You’re free to disagree with me. It seems to me you haven’t been around AJX in a long while, you don’t know what my relationships are with these people or what they have shared with me, yet you seem to think you know more about this situation than I do.
I don’t know what Tim Waltz, or sex offender pardons have to do with anything in this thread. I don’t know why you would presume that I would be in favor of pardoning sex offenders. That’s a strange one.
July 22, 2026 at 5:33 PM #24363Jana. Thank you for giving me permission and the freedom to disagree with you 🙄. I have No problems having disagreements and then hopefully productive discussions or debate about those disagreements. What I do have a problem with is when some one that disagrees with me tells me what they think and then rather than listen to me (or others), then proceeds to tell me what I think. It must be nice to be able to frame both sides of an issue, but does not really work when other folks actually want to present their own thoughts in their own words. Please read your post above (#24359) where you want to “translate” other people’s words and then proceed to misrepresent what they said or mean and in fact make up their words and intentions. That’s disingenuous and condescending. And why do you try to diminish my input or validity of my comments by implying that because I don’t frequent the Airpark often they are irrelevant. I participate in this forum to stay abreast of the more important issues that concern me such as the viability of the club and flying site. Can’t you support your opinions without attacking others or bringing up distractors. This is a quick reply. I will post a longer comment in the wee hours, as i will likely be awake at a less than ideal time tonight.

General MemberJust a quick note from the Canadian Nationals in Golden, BC
I’ve seen some of the discussion about my resignation, and I want to address one point. Jana and I have had an open conversation about my reasons for resigning. She is free to discuss anything I’ve shared with her if she chooses. In fact, she’s been very careful and respectful, and has only made general comments about my resignation. There’s no need for anyone to give her a hard time for speaking on the subject.
I’ll provide my own detailed explanation after I get home and have the time to sit down and write it. I also have concerns about the way the current Steve situation has been handled. Whether someone agrees or disagrees with the outcome, I believe organizations should follow their own governing documents and established procedures when making decisions of this nature. That concern is consistent with some of the broader governance issues that ultimately led to my resignation.
For now, though, I’m going to focus on the competition, and I’ll have more to say when I return.
July 22, 2026 at 6:01 PM #24365The Reference to Tim Walz had to do with a political issue. I try to avoid bringing up state or national politics into other discussions due to how nasty that discourse can be, but I see some parallels here, especially with the attitudes expressed and bringing up social issues such as homelessness which … should be irrelevant to a FLYING CLUB. That said, I am now going off on a completely different tangent. It does not surprise me that you have not heard that Governor Tim Walz … completely PARDONED a 40 something year old man who had been arrested, charged and found guilty of repeatedly raping a 10 year old girl. Tim Walz and his parole board ADMITTED that they pardoned him BECAUSE he was an illegal immigrant facing deportation and they wanted to block deportation. I acknowledge this is an extreme comparison but buying a person a club membership … not to get him flying , but to circumvent him being held accountable for his actions or to bypass a board that, (how ever flawed you think they are) that I believe are acting in the best interests of the club and protecting the site going forward. This is a HUGE (or should I say a “YUGE”) national story, because the Secretary of State steped in and revoked this pedophiles legal status and he has already been deported back to Laos. The amazing thing is that ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC have given this story exactly… ZERO minutes of coverage, which is why I am not surprised you are unaware of it. So when you hear certain folks complaining of.. FAKE NEWS … it is not always just for publishing some fake stories, but what is much worse is their OMISSION of stories and why they won’t cover certain stories. Lies of omission are often worse than just plain old lies (of commission).
OK, done with that political rant. My next point will be on point on why I believe Steve is STILL a detriment to the club. Carry On
