Update: after 2 months, this was finally resolved (tons of printer/mail/whatever else mixups). Just my opinion, but the new cards are quite a disappointment. They do include the IPPI information, but they are now paper and also include an expiration on the front (matching your renewal date). They still sent the plastic keyring cards, so that doesn’t seem to jive with the “cost savings” argument, but I dunno.
No reason to waste money on ordering one – printing it out yourself will give you the same result.
David WebbGeneral MemberWow – you could shave with the edge on that inversion :)
David WebbGeneral MemberThank you, Marcum, for posting updates. They are very much appreciated.
David WebbGeneral MemberSounds like you fared better than Dodger Stadium:
EDIT: Looks like the photo above turned out to be an illusion, combined with sloppy reporting. Just looks like it’s surrounded by water due to the wet parking lot reflecting light in just the right way. Nothing to see here!
David WebbGeneral MemberThat seems to agree with the WU prediction for Sunday (whoooooooole lotta rain – almost 4 inches in a day):
David WebbGeneral MemberThanks for the link, Kirk. That was a great, detailed look at the system developing now. Time to batten down the hatches it looks like.
That guy talks FAST. High “information density” to his video :)
David WebbGeneral MemberStarted the day off right with an hour flight from Crestline. Perfect launch conditions at 9AM, with gentle ridge lift plus soft thermals on the back ridge, and easy thermals out front. Landed for lunch and car retrieve, but was definitely an easy-to-stay-up-all-day kinda day.
Before taking the Sandy Van up to Marshall, some of us got to watch this local beast practice water drops on Pine. It took several passes, stopping for a drink at the power station reservoir.
Ditto on the 6.5k and 2.5 hours. Shortly after launch, Cloud seemed to be providing the exit strategy back to Crestline and EZ ridge soaring for the rest of the afternoon. Winds were 15+ most of the flight, but very smooth and pleasant for PGs. Billboard was unusually mellow.
David WebbGeneral MemberThose are great suggestions – neither should be an issue to add.
David WebbGeneral MemberI threw away $5 so the rest of you don’t have to.
After asking USHPA about it, I ordered a new USHPA card, expecting the IPPI information to be included on it. It ain’t. The paper/printable version you can see when you’re logged into your account on their site includes it, but the plastic cards apparently still don’t.
Inexpensive inconvenience, but somewhere out there, there are a couple of tacos that I never got to eat.
Edit: they’re now saying I “got sent an old card by accident,” and that they’ll send me a new one in the next batch of new cards, so possible that this will be corrected in the near future. In any case, would be a good idea to check to make sure before paying for a new card.
David WebbGeneral MemberUnless it’s a temporary glitch, this TFR appears to be no longer active. SkyVector and the FAA site no longer show it.
If true, the only thing left to be avoided for the foreseeable future is melting. Forecast for the next 10 days:
David WebbGeneral MemberAh – that’s good to know. I thought they just created them once and then updated them. What I may do is try to pull all of the current TFRs for that general area, so one could then just pick from a list (select by the description instead of a specific ID). Depends on how ambitious/bored I am this week.
David WebbGeneral MemberSince we’ll likely have more this season (and every fire season), I’m going to put a simple tool together that we can punch in a TFR ID, and it will spit out a 3D map with the exclusion area on it. More to follow…
David WebbGeneral MemberDefinitely qualified as my smoothest Soboba experience to date. Felt like coastal ridge soaring, and much of the afternoon there was a nice lift band out over the road that covered the whole local part of the range. Light, easy flying with no need for extra layers (comfy t-shirt weather). Maxed out at 5900′ and got 2 1/2 hours in.
Selfie +1:
David WebbGeneral MemberHi Billie,
I just looked in the member directory, and it looks like you’re paid up until July next year (2024). 2 weeks before your renewal, you’ll get a nag email with a link to renew. If you want to renew before that email gets to you, there’s a page under your account that shows your “subscriptions,” with a button to renew it.
David WebbGeneral MemberAwesome flight.
