November 8, 2024 at 6:27 PM in reply to: Elsinore protocols update for calling the DZ if you plan to cross the Lake on XC #21265
This requested courtesy call protocol results from efforts initiated by Mateo Caicedo, a DZ and PG pilot. He is requesting to make the shared air space a bit safer for all and this was formulated just this week.
Yes, the FAA does not require it, and we typically all avoid the DZ cylinder. However, the DZ approach and takeoff are in shared air space. Depending on winds and other factors, they sometimes drop outside of the cylinder.
SDHGPA, with the heavy contributions of Joseph DeBeer’s time, has been developing a 5G Houlfuy replacement station or at least a solution until Houlfuy develops a US 5g solution.
Joseph is still refining the sensor data processing code, but we have three second-generation stations up and running.
When we are more comfortable with the design and code, to be able to support it, and port the data to outside WX networks, it is Joseph’s intent to open-source the design and code.

Does it come in Orange?
;-)
Hope you enjoy your newfound freedom!
Have you guys looked into applying for a grant from the Foundation For Free Flight to help with this project?
getting & running Google Earth desktop would be best for that and making great Site Maps. Although the web version would work.
Windows & Mac versions are available: https://www.google.com/earth/versions/
Jeff Brown from SDHGPA has reached out to TASMA to get frequencies designated for free flight.
The topic is up for discussion at their next meeting but has been delayed due to COVID-19.
FYI,
The New San Diego/ SDHGPA simplex freq is: 145.525
