This could be of value for out-of-state pilots who want to visit…

Some restaurants have re-opened for dine-in service. Since this weekend I have binged on: Sizzlers, Olive Garden, Denny’s, Chili’s. Others also offering indoor dining: El Pollo Loco, Applebee’s, IHOP, Red Robin, BJ’s, Coco’s. The list is growing, but waiting on my favorite local Thai and pizza places. Note: Most (if not all) drive-through places have remained open throughout.

I called some motels/hotels near Marshall, and about 1/3 are open to the public, while others may only accept essential service workers.

    It almost feels normal again.

Similar discussions were held at the start of the international Paragliding Forum, which has 49633 registered users today. The use of real names greatly improved the signal to noise ratio, with people feeling more responsible for what they post, having their real name next to it.

There will be people who desire saying what they want, while hiding behind anonymity and claim “privacy concerns”. Those people can avoid posting where their comments are made public. While people unafraid of stating who they are, should be allowed to share publicly what they want.

Where there is no choice (as in the CSS member directory), then personal information should not be made public, and only visible to those who need to verify their good standing with the club.

Impossible to make everyone happy, but the above has been proven to work elsewhere.

    Existing guidelines mention:

    1)  All kiting should be confined to the southwest corner of the LZ.
    2) If pilots in the air are observed to be setting up their downwind, base, or final approach, all gliders should be grounded. This helps to indicate to pilots in the air that those on the ground can see them making their approach.

People not respecting existing guidelines is the main issue. Also, independent pilots (not just students) may be kiting without instructors present, so it is not just a school/instructor issue.

Extra info: This is the USHPA web page referenced. It states (but not where the accidents happened)…

One case involved a midair, and the other involved a collision between a kiting glider and a glider coming in to land..

Still wondering what to do? (not too serious)

Instead of trying to make sense of the conflicting advice from politicians, medical experts, civil right defenders, corporations, or struggling families…

Simplify and just ask yourself: What would Chrigel do?

Funny guys. Fun day again this past Sunday (4 hour flight).

Update, 2020/5/20: Yesterday this USHPA insurance update ( <– click the link ) had Soboba lumped with 2 other flying sites, as no longer having insurance coverage. But today the info is revised to more appropriately state “No coverage when using property East of Soboba Flight Park”. So, no issue using the new/current launch(es) and landing at Soboba.

Thanks for sharing that video presentation Mitch. Their message is balanced: Shelter-in-place and distancing was appropriate (link to statement) to flatten hospital resources demand, has served its purpose, and now time to resume activities/work and accept related risk while still protecting those most at risk.

Who can disagree with “moving now towards a Swedish model“?

I am no longer going to do any repair or sewing work for anyone who is now, or did during the fabricated ” crisis”  advertising, promoting, or complying with the California  CV19 quarantine scam.

This Seinfeld episode comes to mind.

I get asked what the new main PG launch (called “Mid Spine”) looks like. So after hiking up today, I took the picture below. And thanks to Alex, who took this video of my launch. Landed 4 hours later.

As of May 8, masks no longer required (but still recommended) in San Bernardino (and Riverside) county according to The Sun and ABC 7.

    Done (easy) but I have 4 questions…

    1) Did I screw up by paying too early? I had an existing membership expiring at end of May this year. By paying now, my account now shows that my next payment is May 2, 2021. Should it not be due instead on May 31, 2021, so I  am adding a full year from my previous expiration?

    2) Will I be billed automatically next year? I prefer avoiding auto-pay methods.

    3) I am unclear about the “general membership sign-up fee”. It seems like the purpose of the “first-time sign-up fee” is to be a fee just applicable once, to the very first time we sign up (not following renewals), and that we can use this $25 discount coupon to avoid it now (which I did). My current payment was “only” $100. But when renewing in about a year from now, will I pay $100 or $125?

    4) Since my membership payment has completed, can I delete my credit card on record under “Payment Methods” in my account?

Thank you for making this a streamlined process, looks professional (like other online stores).

Is it possible to make the animation pop-up window size-adjustable?

Not hoping for more resolution, just allowed to adjust the window to become larger.
