Well said Jana!
I think Linda’s first post brings up a good argument of whether people running businesses at AJX should be able to hold a position. As much as I like those running their schools here and think that some have and would make great directors, there is a potential of conflict of interest.
As far as the incident goes, it seems minor but for the fact that it wasn’t the first time this happened. Hell, I’d argue it is good to learn to do an emergency landing in an unusual place (although this doesn’t appear to be what happened). I think an unsupervised student without proper membership is a problem. If there was something wrong with the facts reported, why didn’t the instructor contact David directly or come on the forum and explain it? There has been plenty of time to do so.
I also don’t understand why people find it hard to sign up for membership or short term membership before flying. Internet at the LZ is not the problem as there is plenty of time before getting up to launch to find cell service and an instructor probably should have worked that out with the student in advance.
Finally, thanks for doing all you have for the club David. I think that you have been open, fair, patient and professional. Hope you enjoy some great and safe flying this year, free of some of this extra work load.

Mario MirallesGeneral MemberThanks for letting me crash (I mean join!) your party guys. That was some fun integrated close flying.
I launched Crestline and got 2.5 hrs and up to 6650 at Santa’s Village.Mario MirallesGeneral MemberThank you Gene and Tim.
I brought my rolling magnet this morning and went over the entire parking area once. I’ve left the magnet in the LZ bin for anyone with some extra time to use it. There is a handle on the main bar that you lift to release the metal you have collected.
Sandy, may you never get another flat tire driving for all us crazy pilots!
Unexpectedly, I was rewarded with an awesome high altitude switch day flight in the afternoon that was definitely not in the plans this morning.
Mario MirallesGeneral MemberNot sure how much of an issue the old structure caused, but I second what Marc points out about considering turbulence.
Mario MirallesGeneral MemberI agree, big thanks to both of you!
Mario MirallesGeneral MemberYes Ken, it would seem like a good time to make the case to the FS.
Mario MirallesGeneral MemberWith the El Dorado and now Bobcat fire almost wrapped up, it would be a good time for someone with a good rapport with the San Bernardino FS to talk to them for permission for launching Crestline since we aren’t really going through, but over the Forest. I only know some of the Angeles FS folks and they have made allowances in the past. It has to be the right (diplomatic) person though.
Throwing rants will not help anything. Knowing FS people on the front line, I can tell you that they could use a break too.
Mario MirallesGeneral MemberUgh!! The FS just contacted me saying that the closures are being extended again for another week! : (

Couldn’t have said it better…..and I’m not referring to the FS Randy Moore.
