    Gosh Bille,
With that twice-reduced payload, in terms of altitude I ‘d say you had a leg up on me!

    Thanks Daniel,
How are you getting local NOTAM information?
BTW – I am an authorized NOTAM writer and can post directly to the database although I haven’t done so in the years I’ve had this access.

I am guessing that the harshest thing the city could do is cite us for trespassing after we’ve landed. This would probably get thrown out in court too.

The looming issue is if the FAA modifies FAR103 in a way that reduces our freedom to fly at will in Class G and E airspace.

The delivery drone lobby is the greater issue and not the City of Redlands.

Separately, there can be frivolous but expensive lawsuits against pilots such as this.

    Hi Albert,
Stan, Jai Pal and myself spoke to the counsel on Zoom along with a retired CFI who welcomed us at KREI. No action will be taken until after an ad hoc committee meets between the CSS, RAA and the City AP Mgr. It was agreed that we all need to meet and communicate together so we can see what will actually work. The chair of the counsel requested the RAA find other existing municipal codes that deal with issues like this. The two that I know of are for different reasons.
AFAIK, the barbed wire topped fence around the adjacent property was not addressed and may continue for act as a trap for unsuspecting pilots.

I’m glad we had as much turnout as we did. For a change of pace I made it back to the LZ. 98 minutes in cold to freezing was enough for me.

Seriously, no pilot should be flying without an activated GPS tracker or a 406Mhz SARSAT beacon. The 2-meter radio is also a great idea. Better yet is for pilots to be a part of https://xcfind.paraglide.us/ and understand how to interact with the system and look for indication of incidents.

I flew with too large a glider on Thursday and paid the price. I was still able to cover a lot of terrain but got a little too ambitious and was 100′ too low by the afterbay to connect and get back up. Not matter. It was a fun flight with good views. I found a new field to land in too.

Gosh! I’m so saddened for Stan and his wife. Any time I get lucky and hook the occasional thermal by the high school bus parking I think of Stan because he showed me how it works perhaps 12 years ago.
One of my favorite Stan quips was when he got in Knumbnuts’ face and called our training circuit, “The Big Oops!”. You always knew where you stood with Stan. I may be blunt but Stan was BLUNT! I am truly sorry that he has left the building. I wish his wife and family peace.

Great photo! It was eerie watching it unfold while flying. Then all the rerouted air traffic turned the sky into a slalom course.

By a weird twist of shuttle availability I cancelled my 2PM ride to Marshall w/ Marcello after I got a 230PM ride up at Sylmar. The CSUSB rain rate exceeded 5″/hour for a fairly long duration depositing 1.8″ or so in 30 minutes. I had dinner Tuesday w/ the pilot who landed off field and have seen two different videos of the event. It was freaky. I’m glad no one was injured in the melee. The weather at Sylmar was like:

I’m pretty sure it’s long gone Tom.
Will you be flying while you’re here?
