General MemberI have always thought the best way to strengthen and protect the sport of hangliding/freeflight is to increase the base or number of participants. This can only be done by attracting more people to the sport and by supporting or building the numbers of instructors and locations where prospective new pilots could be introduced to flying. If every current pilot referred just one friend or person that they know (per year or two), who they thought might actually enjoy this sport, to a qualified instructor for a demo /tandem flight then the base would grow and the availability of instructors/instruction would become more financially stable or secure. I am sure we all know at least one person that we think might dig getting into soaring flight and who might enhance the flying community if they got into it. As far as the buttons, I would be in for a few if someone decides to make a run of them.

General MemberLooks like the LZ was a happy place. Curious to hear more about how the actual flying was and, of course……. When is the Next Fly-In ?

General MemberHow did the container clean up and “audit” go? Were there any HG that did not correspond to the right location and or that could not be matched to an owner or space renter? Thanks, Alan Coffield

General MemberIf the offending party is known, what is the need for fund raising ? Hold the slasher accountable.

General MemberAlert… multiple fires. I believe there are no less than 5 active fires burning between San Bernardino, Redlands and just North of San Jacinto with active aerial firefighting traffic all around. I will try to post a copy of any TFRs later, but I suspect Soboba flight park will be impacted as well as anyone hoping to head East from Crestline/AJX for at least the next few days. See you in the air (not this weekend!), Alan C

General MemberWell a little closer to home, Dirk Darling, who is a former CSS member, flew his sailplane from Warner Springs to Bishop last Sunday (7-2-23) for a 470 mile, straight line flight. Not a bad flight, but more impressive is the logistics of getting his sailplane home 🙄. Dirk use to fly HG’s and a Millenium when a member of CSS, but like some of us other experienced ( otherwise known as …. OLD) pilots has moved on to mostly flying sailplanes. See you in the air, Alan

General MemberAllo, I was not available for next Saturday’s (7-15-23) Connex/Glider storage clean up, so I made it out there today to pick up what I thought were 3 HG that I had stored there. Turns out I could only find two. I thought I had an older Spectrum 165 stored there as well, which I did not find. It is possible that I have it stored elsewhere. I left my storage spots empty for now so if anyone comes across a WW Spectrum 165 that is on the wrong shelf please place it on my spot. Top, Front, Right shelf in Connex #1. My Spectrum 165 should be in a standard WW bag with my name (Coffield) or initials (ABC) written on one or both ends. Checked all four Connex containers and did not see it. I will still try to make it out next weekend. Thanks, Alan Coffield

General MemberAllo Tom, sorry I did not see you post sooner. The U2 is a 145 (I believe) and may have been manufactured in 2003? This may be the same glider that Dave tumbled around that year. The family never gave me a set price. I believe Mickey S has worked out a deal to acquire it. I will repost if that falls thru. He is visiting, back from N.C. to fly the Owens in the next week or two and should be making an appearance at AJX soon.

General MemberLast call for anyone interested in Dave’s U2. Family from out of state is here this weekend. Evidently there is a second HG available. I will try to get details when I meet with them tomorrow or Saturday in Elsinore.
