From Jai Pal “However in 2021 CSS , in agreement with  USHPA, dropped RRRG insurance and replaced it with a CGL insurance policy meeting landowner’s requirements in accordance with the CSS lease and Use permit. ”

It could be entirely possible that, as a policy, USHPA will drop any chapter that does not meet their RRRG insurance requirements and whomever at USHPA approved the change in coverage did not pass our exception on to someone else?

Should the person who had this insurance conversation with USHPA check on that?

I don’t personally see a downside to maintaining our Chapter status.  Unless someone can enlighten me….

Thank you for the details Dan.  I hope the pilot heals quickly.

Presented in the right way I think information like this is valuable.  I know it helps me be more aware.  Hopefully other pilots as well.

Any thoughts from people who may have witnessed the incident on what may have caused the spin?

Following the track was really cool, as was seeing the different choices of each pilot.  Well Done.

Thanks for putting it together and posting.

Thanks David.  I don’t stray far from Marshall and Crestline but this is good to have.

    Congratulations David.  Great work.

Alan, I contemplated the exact same thing.  I thought about making the recommendation to only allow members in good standing access to the website.

    Then I reconsidered.

I believe that there is a wealth of knowledge here that should be available to anyone.  I also believe that allowing the general public to register and be a part of the discussions is inviting to others and a good thing.   Sharing our weather data and site information also improves the pilot and their experience.

For those reasons my position would be to keep the forum open and monitor the posts versus a closed forum.

I believe accidents and incidents should be published so that we can all learn from them.  The pilot and instructor were not named and I also agree with that and feel that’s the professional way to do it.  I hope that trend continues with the new Safety Director.

David, thank you for being part of the solution and for your efforts this past year in your position and with the website.

Jonathan, you make a great point and everyone should be warm and welcoming at launch and at the LZ.  If a person feels welcome they might be more inclined to ask and accept advise about launches, landings, site hazards, and protocols.  As a new pilot I remember feeling very intimidated on launch and in the LZ because I was surrounded by so many people with more experience than I had at the time.

I can also appreciate the desire not to be governed by unnecessary rules and regulations.  But that is not the climate we live in at our location at this time.  Safe practices and financial liability are important and must be satisfied.  The Club has rules and protocols in place for the safety of the individual and the liability of the Club.  I for one hope to fly here for a very long time.  I love this site and the things that club members do you improve the site and my experience there.  If there are too many accidents then the Club will become unsustainable.  What happens then?  Will the land will be sold, other land owners trespass anyone who lands on their property, the forest service block access to launch?

I believe it is a reasonable expectation to be a current Club member, and Current USHPA member with the proper rating, to satisfy the safety and liability concerns of our sport and our Club at our location.  I think the argument that Club rules don’t apply to a launch that is outside of the Club boundaries is factually correct but a dangerous position to take because accidents will draw negative attention to CSS, and a financial burden in the event CSS is named in any legal action.

But it doesn’t matter what I think.  Those are the rules of the Club.  If anyone disagrees then as a club we should discuss, vote, and amend the policies and rules as necessary. But right now, those are the rules we should follow.

Glad you made it out the other side Billie.  The infection rate is low and death rate lower, but that doesn’t mean they don’t happen.  And may happen to those we know and care about.

The times I have chosen to fly, I have chosen to maintained my distance on launch, and upon landing I packed and left immediately.  I miss socializing with everyone at the LZ, but I don’t think now is the best time so I have chosen not to.

We must be free to make our own choices.  But I would encourage everyone to be good humans and to be cognizant of how your choices may effect others.

    Be safe everyone.
