This posting on July 5 2022 clearly states a desire to accept AUA ratings: “We’re trying to add to the bylaws of the club to accept other forms of rating system such as USHPA, IPPI, FAI and AUA“.

This is difficult to reconcile with Stan’s statement, 11 days later during the July 16 2022 board meeting: “There is no current plan to accept AUA ratings“.

Maybe there is a disconnect between board members and hopefully the confusion will be resolved at the upcoming (Sept 17, 2022) board meeting, which has on its agenda: “By-laws review for updates at the next general membership meeting“. We will then see if the proposed updates mention the acceptance of AUA ratings (or anything else than USHPA, IPPI).

Extra info: In the club bylaws, I find no place that restricts the rating providers (to be from USHPA). The only thing close is “Section 2. Qualifications”, but that relates to liability insurance, not ratings. The site guidelines do state rating requirements and provenance.

That is a great tip. I learned it from a wedding dress repair place, when I took in a rucksack for a zipper replacement, and the guy fixed it in an instant, with the same advice of “don’t over-squeeze”.

The other thing that happens often with coiled zippers is that tiny grains of dirt/rock jam the teeth in a few areas along the zipper. Best not to use Silicone lubricant, even the “dry” type (many recommend  this) as it will “invite” more particles to stick, but instead flick/shake/vibrate the area to dislodge embedded particles. Works better than using a brush (without vibration) to clean the zipper teeth.

From motorcycle jackets, I learned that despite my dislike of coiled zippers (preferring the “Vislon” molded teeth), coiled is more durable (reference). So coiled zipper are a good fit for rucksacks or concertina bags (one can avoid zippers altogether) exposed to dirt and bending.

    Happy zippering.

    For Bille…

I believe Jonathan said “As you were” like they say in the military, meaning “return to what you were doing before”, and not implying anything about Linda’s character. It would have been different if he said “as you are“.

After Friday’s flight in stronger air (flight data), I decided it’s a keeper. Previous wing is for sale.

Thanks to Cory for the video of my launch (mp4).

Flying again Saturday, just for the fun of it.

On Tuesday my student had one, and it was as easy as it gets for inflation and kiting. It also now has top surface flexible ribs/rods at the leading edge, between the walls.

The first set of in-flight observations, from today’s flying.

The next few days should offer classic summer (rougher air) conditions, allowing me to decide to keep it or not. But so far, I am enjoying it.

If you (anyone) is alongside in flight, it would be fun to compare glide at speed.

Got it yesterday and planning to fly it today under cloudy (hopefully no rain) skies. More flying in the following days.

I had to purchase one to test fly, so I have not decided yet if I will keep it. But I had enough hope to justify taking a small gamble. I will be collecting my observations in here, at the end of each flying day until I reach a decision.

Thanks for asking Linda, not a feel-good position, but it is appreciated.

There is still a fair chance (I am hopeful) that the finances have remained separate between the club and the shade structure, which is to be funded separately as promised, but best to see it detailed. Also,  it will be good to see how much remains in funded donations towards future structure improvements, or if more fundraising is needed.

Hi Bille. Seems like Jeff was making generalistic humor (ref) in continuation of the last sentence from my post above his, not aimed at anyone in particular, but using “you” to represent anyone. And I clarified my post to state that I wasn’t referring to anyone’s fading memory in particular, just the nature of memory itself.

We all have to be careful when relying on our memories, as studies showed humans adjust memories for personal comfort or to align with a social group.

Linda’s video recording of the meeting may require (ref) to be on Facebook. I was there and don’t need to relive this fun event, but it likely can be shared publicly (public event and made obvious that at least one camera was recording). YouTube or Vimeo could be good choices, or I offer to temporarily host a video/audio file if needed.

It can provide a reference (one can point to a specific time in the video) until the official meeting minutes are posted, as well as validate the posted minutes if needed.

But of course, it is more fun to go by fading memories (not referring to anyone in particular) and argue.

Not seeing the meeting minutes yet under the normal holding place, but this is likely delayed due to the search for a new webmaster. If they are already redacted, minutes could be posted here in the meantime.

For those wondering as I did, about the state of the grass in the LZ, I asked during the meeting and Tim Ward said (summarizing and going on memory):  “Waiting to reconnect the water lines, for the shade structure’s new concrete slab to be finished, to avoid doing significant/temporary work“. Sounds reasonable, and thanks to all those working on this.

Another point was reinforced: As tempting as it may be, do not land on top of the shade structure, it is not designed for that. Should we paint “DON’T DO  IT” on the roof?

Thank you Owen for providing this fun location. You are wise to seek liability protection and hopefully can offset the cost: Day/Season fee or club support?

A water body, elevated platform, drinks, access… What can go wrong?

Linda said (ref) that a waiver is being prepared (not available yet), to be signed by users of the facility.

Hi  Norman. Gene Embree or Tim Ward are probably most knowledgeable to answer.
