Monday 7-12 could use some help getting the excavations cleaned up and ready for rebar, concrete and anchor bolts.

Any time this week someone could get a 1 ponnd box of TSP and a brush. Need to and wash the oil off the steel column material staged behind the glider boxes so we can prime/paint them after welding. We have a couple long garden hoses to get water to that point.

Also can get the ends of the columns prepped  for welding with a grinder. A 1/4 inch bevel is plenty. same bevel needed on the column caps- the small plates cut and laying next to the column pile.

rebar and bolts arrive tuesday and if youre up for setting up rebar and bolt templates on wednesday, gimme a call. 909 226 3331

those white pipes were used by MWD to fill temporary water tanks filled by water trucks to replace ground water lost during construction of the 10 ft diam tunnel bored pipeline. MWD helicoptered them out when the const was complete. Kevin Williams gathered them up in hoping they could be used for future projects.

The old old system used black 1.5 in diam pipe that got burned in the 03 fire. I think there was like a couple thousand feet of it too.

A springtime regular, Catalina Eddy, showed up and stole the show.

Radio was to aid in students DBF approach. Previous flight was uneventful but a bit short.

in reply to: Who’s in favor of having a launch and landing clinic? #12086

With a 6pm start, one would probably get 15-20 runs. Late day provides conditions that let the piloting determine the outcome, not the conditions determining the outcome. The narrative is day 1 speak that everyone has long forgotten but should hear every year. Launch and landing explained in simple terms. The purpose of each. Launching and landing is easy. Anxiety can keep you from performing the task at hand. Reps on the training hill get you out of the passenger seat and back confidently in the pilot’s seat.

The training hill sits vacant almost every evening. Judging by that, it seems pilots are satisfied with their level of competence given the consistently pilot-friendly launch and landing conditions at this site.  Does it take a clinic to compel pilots to show up to better their fundamentals? Unfortunately, the answer may be yes.  Ask pilots who consistently launch and land well what methods they employed to get consistency. Guess what they’ll say. Lots of practice. Grab a beginner glider and in smooth evening conditions, practice. Tim or I can gator up the hill. By late eve, the winds usually die down to almost nil and theres your low/no conditions to work in.

Side note: Had  solo student launch 6pm or so. I had walked down to launch first, unhooked and got him launched. Went to grab my glider and spotted a little rattlesnake right there next to the base bar. It was coiled up and managed a little strike as I picked up the wing but he couldnt reach far enough. Warm spring weather brings out the snakes so watch your step.

The scales seem to be messed up on BLtop and BLdepth too. I do like the contrast in positive and negative values in the convergence graphic. Thank You Alan.

I remember spring flying over that area, getting low and the orange blossom fragrance wafting up with the wind. Way cool.
